Kenmore Mini Ultra 3/4 Size Sewing Machine with 6 Stitches Plus Buttonhole —
I was in need of a small, lightweight mechanical machine that I could travel with and take to classes. This easy-to-use Mini-Ultra filled the bill quite nicely. It makes even stitches and an attractive 4-step buttonhole. There are three sizes of straight stitch, three sizes of zigzag, and a bartack. Not only does it do freemotion quilting well, but it sews up to 6 layers of denim without a skipped stitch. I was surprised by how much power it had available. I have even sewed polar fleece with it, and it did a great job of it. It does sew a little slower than a standard-sized machine, but not enough to make one not want to use it. It would be a perfect machine for someone, including a young person, to learn how to sew on. It's simple to thread, and winds a nice bobbin. The manual is straight-forward, easy to understand. It shows how to put in a zipper, but no zipper foot is included with the machine. The Mini-Ultra does have free arm capability. Machine parts are stored in the part that comes off for access to the free arm. A zigzag foot and a buttonhole foot comes with the machine. Through Sears I purchased an adapter foot and added snap-on feet for a vertical bobbin machine.
