The water filter leaks and is apparently due to a poor design.</p> <p>Repairmen have been to the house.  One solution was to replace the water filter base. This repair did not last 24 hours before leaking.  Sears sent a senior technician to evaluate the problem.  According to the senior technician, the currently specified water filter is a new model but is a poor design.  His solution was to replace it with an older model that worked fine before it was phased out.  He just happened to have a spare in the truck.  Unfortunately, the older model water filters are no longer available.  He wished me good luck as he drove off!  Not much of a solution there.</p> <p>Sears is now recommending to permanently cap off the water filter system!  This is not a solution. This is a $2600-$2800 refrigerator. I am astonished Sears would even suggest it.  Amazing. </p>... We loved the look of the product and based on the description/specs we decided to make the purchase.</p> <p>BIG MISTAKE...</p> <p>The fuse box on the icemaker blew this summer (2009) and the icemaker has been malfunctioning ever since then. Despite our repeated calls to the service people [who claim to have fixed the problem each time], the sensor in the icemaker is no longer functional. This means we have ice overflowing without end in the freezer compartment. The only way to stop this from happening is to manually go in and turn off the ice making machine. Had this been a "lower end" appliance, I would be okay with having to operate the ice maker manually. However, I paid a lot of money for this thing to work as promised and so I am deeply disappointed with the outcome of this experience. Afterall, we are living in the 21st century. There were a few minor issues but have been really happy with it for the past 6 months. The only issue we have a really tight kitchen and the door can't open past 90 degrees and the produce drawers can't come all the way out. Make sure you don't plan on using this in a corner. I guess our other unit was designed differently so we didn't have an issue opening the doors of that one. Mechanically, the unit runs like a top so take these reviews with a grain of salt. I guess you always have a few 'bad' units in the bunch.... They have replaced the digital unit twice and it still isn't cooling. Seems like their repair people are just throwing parts at it. They all say they think they've fixed it and it should be fine now. The same day it starts doing the same thing and now it's beeping all of the time! Read what other reviewers are saying and steer clear. Counter Depth Side-By-Side Refrigerator: Sears item# 04644333000 Mfr. model# 44333 The outside gages do not work. Not for the freezer , and not for the refrigerator. According to a high end electronic thermometer the difference between the display and the real temperature varies by as much as 10 degrees. The most frustrating issue we had was the measurements. We planned to have the refrigerator go against the wall in one side and up against the cabinets in the other. Since we installed our new cabinets before they delivered the refrigerator, we had to go by the measurements off the owner's manual available on sears website. We made our opening inch bigger than the maximum opening of the refrigerator according to the manual. The problem is that the manual does not mention that in order for the doors to swing out they need 1...... We chose to use all Kenmore Pro units except the cooktop ( 30" electric is not offered, why? ) and we could not be happier!! This refrigerator has done nothing but surpass all our expectations at a superb price point. We are the envy of our friends and we recieve compliments all the time about the looks of the appliances, they love the temperature guages on the door, the soft gradual illumination of the interior lighting and the grille accesory that makes it appear as a built in. In fact when i tell them its not a built in i practically have to show them its not!!!! I've given this product all 5 stars except quality which recieved 4 stars, why you ask, because like any other product that is mass produced there is bound to be somthing not perfect....... The 23.1 cu. ft. counter depth PRO Refrigerator was our choice. It has a great built-in look and doesn't rob space from the kitchen. Since it has been installed 4 months ago we've had no service calls on either of the PRO appliances. The refrigerator does what it should very well and is whisper quiet. The only issue we've had with it is with it's quirky ice-maker. First it was reluctant to start making ice and later it stopped making ice due to the water supply tube in the freezer compartment freezing up. After spending time checking the supply line I finally noticed the iced-up tray water supply tube inside the freezer. Within 10 minutes I'd fixed the problem by using a hair dryer to melt the ice at the end of the tube and since then it has worked well. I suspect our ice-maker problem is...... The repairman is coming back next week to replace the produce drawer with the cheap glued on plastic cover. He is also going to replace another part that is causing my $3000 fridge to not keep consistent temperature. My food is going bad. The ice is constantly empty because it produces such a small amount. I had a horrific time dealing with the delivery people and customer service to get the original fridge replace. I also don't know what to do now because I remodeled my kitchen with Kenmore Pro appliances, which I love except the fridge. If I replace it, it will look out of place because of the distinctive handles on every other appliance....
