About 15 years ago, Consumers Reports did a report on water heaters and Sears Kenomore was than highly recommended
as the best of the best. Since that time there have been no reports done on water heaters from consumers. My original water heater that came with my new house was already 13.5

The engineers did a great job.
QUALITY CONTROL IS POOR!
1st month- Water will not get hot- Thermostat needed replacing (Supervisor of repair center stated this never happens- repairman stated it happens).
1st month- Pilot will not stay lit- Thermocouple tube has pinch.
If my 2nd repair results in waiting...review »

Kenmore Power Miser 12, 75 gallon Natural Gas... Ratings and Reviews
I purchased the reviewed water heater about 3 days ago. Had it installed by the independent installer referred by Sears. It seems to do a fine job heating water when the pilot light works. The pilot light fails at random times, necessitating early morning lightings to assure warm morning showers, as well as relightings during the day. It took two days for me to figure out that there was a problem. That process involves having cold showers, relighting the pilot light, and then having some more cold showers at random times. I have spent 3 hours today trying to contact someone at the Sears national...review »
This water heater is a great buy and value. With this unit, I have never run out of hot water. You can have 2 showers going at once and even run the washing machine on a hot cycle and not run out.
Although it is a bigger unit, it takes less space than having two 40 or 50 gallon units in your basement. It also costs less to purchase, install, & operate than having 2 units. It has great recovery time. It also has a nice appearance. It does require 4" venting instead of the standard 3" to accomodate the 55,000 BTU burner. A standard burner is only 40,000 BTUs. If you like having plenty of hot water...review »
I replaced a leaking 13 year old AO Smith 75 gallon water heater with the Sears. It was a slow leak so I had time to shop around. Sears had the best price (on sale at the time I bought it) and I like the idea of the dip tube that swirls the water to keep the sediment from collecting on the bottom. I also like the idea that it came with an additional anode that can be replaced in the future.
I rated the durability as high since I believe the anode and the swirl feature will help it last longer
Hot water and recovery time are not an issue even with 2 showers and a dishwasher and washing machine running...review »
My old Sears 65 gallon heater had a 12 year warranty and made it 18 years. Sears replaced it the same day I called. It takes 2 people to haul out a mineral encrusted 65 gallon heater from a basement, and they sent 2 people out with the new water heater. The total cost with bring the new installation up to code, hauling out the old one and removal came to $1,000. No one else was open at 7 A.M. when I discovered my problem. Sears was my only choice. I have had no problems for the 2 years since the installation, so it looks like I made a good call.
I wish water heaters had a built in warning as they...review »
I replaced a 50 gallon RUUD with this unit. The installation was relatively easy, the water heater is heavy, so plan on having two people to lift it into place if it is going in a garage. Also plan on replacing your vent pipes. Now for the good stuff. This is a nice looking water heater. It recovers amazingly fast. I have run two showers, a washing machine, and a dishwasher all at the same time...and still had plenty of hot water. It is also surprisingly compact, it is just a little larger than my old 50 gallon water heater. I would highly recommend this water heater to anybody that has teenagers....review »
I purchased this online after reading the reviews, and kept my fingers crossed that I would be one of the lucky ones. I wasn't. The installation was not successful due to a faulty thermocoupler, so tonight I go to bed without ANY hot water. I am awaiting a courtesy call (it's 10pm already) for a repair tomorrow on a brand new unit!
I was also informed by Sears that this was the last unit in stock, and had some minor dents - purely cosmetic. I was willing to accept this, but now question the reliability of the unit as a whole. Time will tell.
i have no complaint on the product itself, but make sure you are willing to wait about a week for sears to get it together and find an installer! better yet, make sure customer service knows exactly where you're located & they don't find an installer that is 500 miles outside of your zip code area! we purchased the water heater at the beginning of the week & still was not able to have an installer even call to schedule an appt for almost an entire week! i guess this is what we get for trying to save a few bucks.
