Kenmore Power Miser 9, 40 gal. Gas Water Heater —

After having to take cold showers and relight the pilot 10 times a day to get hot water, I finally gave up.  Sears service is worthless, so know that before you buy.  I called my friend who is a heating guy and he came to look at it.  He replaced the thermocoupler way cheaper than Sears and it still kept having the same problem.  I got online and did research and found that everyone who has this junk is having the same issues.  After reading numerous articles online from other owners, I tried the steel wool first, and cleaned the screen.  that worked for a couple of months, and back to the same again.  I got mad and decided to break the glass from the access panel out, and no more problems.

What I can say for sure is that In my home now, there are 7 appliances.  I will never buy Kenmore anything ever again.  I replaced the washer with the LG and love it.  Home Depot backs their stuff up, and no run around at all.  I would rather boil my own water than ever buy any water heater from Sears again.

I have been going with this run aound from Sears for over a year. I bought Power Miser 9. Worked for 4yaers (warranty [period); gave up 3 months after this. Replaced controller at a cost of $750 (belive it or not); the new controller gave up in 13 months (1 month after the warranty period). Now Sears says tough luck. I ignite the pilot 2, 3, 4 , 10 times and it works. Sears telling me there is no inherent defects with this product. Yet the internet is full of problems from various customers.
