Have had this vac for approx 2 years. At first thought it worked great as far as the suction power. But for a while now, it gets clogged up too easily, we have to clean it out from the bottom everytime before each use. It's bulky and heavy and now we're shopping for a new vaccuum. Suction is no longer good. I think for the price, we did not get what we paid for.

Well, I have the vacuum since 10/2008, so it waited 2 years to break on my hand with not high use (I have 3 small rooms in my house that we have carpet). I never had a vacuum that broke on my hand, I'm careful, plus I know that vacuums are supposed to be built to support our heavy work in our houses. I don't know if my vacuum is still covered by the warranty, but makes me think twice before buying this vacuum again.

Five years ago, we decided we would switch to a bagless vacuum cleaner. First, we bought an inexpensive ($100) Dirt Devil. It seemed to do an adequate job but it was very heavy. After three years, we decided to upgrade to a better vacuum.

**************** rated this vac number 3 in their rankings of upright vacuums. We found it on sale for about $250. From day one, we realized how much better this vacuum is than the Dirt Devil. The suction is powerful enough to pull the nap up so the carpet looks almost new. The IntelliClean sensors show where extra time is needed and almost (almost) make vacuuming fun. It really does an outstanding job of pulling dirt out of both wall-to-wall and oriental carpets.

The vac has a push button feature to switch from vacuuming carpets to hardwood floors (the bare floor setting stops the beater bar and uses only suction) and for using suction hose tools. The canister is easy to remove from the vacuum and empty.

We love this vacuum! The inteli-clean feature is wonderful. The vacuum let's you know when the floor or carpet is clean. We have two dogs and they both shed. And we live in a house where the dogs are allowed on all furniture, so we have major pet hair issues. This vacuum actually gets all the hair up, off the carpet, couch, wood floors etc...it's the best thing I've tried, and I've had dogs for many many years.

Best of all it's easy to clean and use.

My husband bought me a Kenmore Progressive upright bagless cleaner last year for Christmas. I was tired of using cleaners with little power to pick up our cat's hair.We went to Sears to try out the cleaners. The sales clerk allowed us to pick up rice that he spread on the carpet. We tried out ninety of the cleaners there. Our purple Kenmore Progressive upright bagless cleaner picked up the rice by far the best. I am hoping that Kenmore never stops making this cleaner.This cleaner is more than worth its price. The hose and brushes work very well on bare floor. I have used cleaners that cost more than double of the price of our Kenmore Progressive cleaner. Our cleaner has more power. I sometimes clean for other families and wish they had a cleaner with more power like mine. I am very happy with my Kenmore Progressive cleaner. I would buy it again or tell a friend about it.

My husband and I purchased this about 2 years ago. We were shocked at all of the stuff our other vaccum was leaving behind! My husband is what I would call a manly man, and he would fight me to vacuum! It is very easy to use, you wouldn't believe the length hose on it! I was worried because it is so long that it would loose its shape and it has not. The cord is also longer compared to my old wind-tunnel. I LOVE that it has a regular speed for the carpet, then there is the gentle floor speed which I use on the tile floor and ladies, there is a no brush speed! You can use it on the wooden floor! Okay maybe I am over the top on this but I have 2 sons, one is a toddler, a dog and a gerbil....I love that I don't have to sweep the floors as often!

The only thing I will say is that the filters are a tad expensive- 20.00 or so. However, if you don't mind tapping out the filter at-least once a week, you can get away with buying one or two a year.

The great:

Powerful with good suction.

Long hose.

Long cord.

I Like the dirt sensor and its light to inform when clean.

Can see when dirt cup is full and it is easy to empty.

The round, tower filter can be washed.

The not so great:

Heavy.

The little nubs that kept the acessories attached to each other broke off right away, and ever since I've struggled to keep them on every time I vacuum.

Does not get that close to walls.

Not enough spots on board for all accessories, and those that do fit fall off while vacuuming.

Long cord is often in the way and for the price, I think the cord should be automatic rewind.

No dust brush. The upholstery accessory comes with bristles, but they are too short to use on many things and they continually fall off while using.

The hose is a little bit of a hassle to remove and put back in place, especially to put back, when it is needed for accessories.

Dust is all over outside of vaccum after use as though it is leaking as it is being vacuumed up.

Many vacuums over the years -- Hoover, Eureka, Panasonic --- this one is the best. After one year of use, it has been reliable and super-effective in picking up dirt and dog-hair. Thinking about purchasing a 2nd-vacuum of the same model so that we can have one on each floor. The filter can last a long time --- I bang it over a trash can outdoors once a week, releasing an incredible amount of dirt & dust. (With this bagless cleaner, you'll really need the ability to dump the canister & clean the filter in an outdoor area --- bagged cleaners won't work for us because of way to much dog hair). The mini-roller brush attachment needs to be periodically cleaned (removal of hairs / threads / etc., & lubricated), and it will work like a champ for more than a year. The two disadvantages seem to be: (a) the hoses sometimes come loose, and (b) no retractable cord. Highly recommend.

This is by far the worst vacuum I have ever purchased. First, it's heavy and a huge chore to bring upstairs from the basement. The suction is poor, there is some lint that hugs the carpet and only comes up when I use one of the hose attachments. The main hose often comes loose from the connection and I am constantly bending over and putting it back. This machine cannot be used without a floor scrubber nearby because it constantly scuffs up the floor. It's heavy, the cord is always in the way. This machine doesn't do stairs well! Save your money! Stay away from this machine. Oh, the plastic release button for the bagless doesn't work anymore. The little plastic knobs that keep the attachments secure all broke off. Heavy, cheap, a complete waste. This is the first time I have ever written a review even though it took forever to sign up and log on and change password because email already exists, etc. etc. etc.

We purchased this model Nov. 2009 for $220 including tax and 4 months later I regret buying it. Initially I loved the light sensors (green-yellow-red) that indicate whether the carpet is clean or not. The first time I used it I'd have to sit the vacuum in one spot until it indicated a "green" light and then move inches to a new spot and repeat. It was slow going but well worth it to know that the carpets were clean. This was our first bagless vac and I loved being able to see the dirt and pet hair accumulate inside the canister. I will continue to buy canisters from now on for that reason!

But (you knew that was coming, right?) that's where the satisfaction ends. To describe our use, this vacuum is used once a week on 5 upstairs rooms. We have 3 cats who are upstairs only part-time and our kids don't wear shoes in the house. The litter boxes are in the basement, so I'm not vacuuming up litter with this vacuum.

I recently bought this vaccuum after we got married. I love it! We have a dog and it gets up all of the dog hair. I love the dirt level sensor that tells you how dirty the carpet it is and when its completely clean. I did have to empty the canister after the first vaccuum; I couldn't believe how much pet hair was in the carpet. I had a vaccuum before, but it obviously did not do its job. I also like all of the tools and accessories it comes with. It also works great on hardwood floors, gentle and does not scratch. I would highly recommend this vaccuum.

I purchased this vacuum after reading several glowing reviews. The vacuum was used only about monthly, and the filters replaced regularly. At first I loved it, but after two years it died. It suddenly started making a loud noise and had no suction, so I took it back to Sears for repair. They called me back and told me it would cost $200 in parts and labor to repair it. I told them not to bother since I could buy a new vacuum for that price.

After this experience I'm unlikely to buy another Kenmore vacuum.

We bought this vaccuum with high hopes- it got a great rating on ****************. Since then we have had many problems with it. The canister broke and cost almost $200 to replace fully from Sears Parts Direct. It constantly clogs with items like dog hair. When it does work, it works well, but it's a constant battle.

Todayt he motor went out for the carpet brush. I took apart the vaccum to see what the problem was and found a large strip of matted dog hair inside the vaccum. Gross. It costs $60 for the part plus shipping, so we have decided to just buy a new vacuum. We are concerned that if we repair the motor what will go next?

I will never buy anything from Sears again...ever. Their customer service sucks, their parts are way overpriced, and their items can't compete with other brands. Needless to say, the vaccum is the last in a long string of disappointing items.

I really love this vacuum cleaner for everything except dusting. I think it's ridiculous that a quality machine like this does not have a dust brush attachment available. It comes with an upholstery brush, but the bristles are too short and stiff. No way to do my bookshelves, media center, etc. Also, Kenmore vacs have an odd-sized wand diameter, so you can't use any of your old attachments with it. BTW, I found and ordered a Kenmore dustbrush with the help of a Sears sales rep, but turns out it only works for canister vacs, so it's useless for me.

I was soo excited to get this because of the high ratings on ****************, my problem came on my first use of the vaccum cleaner ONE OF THE WHEELS CAME OFF!!!, thanks to me and my husband being handy , we had to first bend the metal rod that that wheels sit on cuz the metal rod had bent as one of the wheels came off.. We were able to get the wheels and the rod through after hitting the rod back to straight.... So i was set back....and in some of the other models they have the wand feature which this cleaner doesn't... it feels a little bulky ,,,as you have to undo the pipe and put the other pipes on the hose and etc....

The kenmore upright White in color is a direct drive, bagless, with a wand.

I like the direct drive feel of the vaccum cleaner, and the button on the handle

I don't understand what compels people to use a vacuum EVERYDAY for two years and then say its a terrible machine....2 years @ everyday is 720 uses.......For those of us that vacuum once a week thats equals 14 years of use, more if you take care of it and take advantage of your service plan......I love this vaccum for three simple facts......It cleans, picks up more dirt than any vacuum I have owned to date.Second , NO belts to break and replace and finally No bags + Hepa filter.......For you obsessives out there you will love rolling over your carpet and concentrating on an area till you get a green light.......You know its clean and you can sleep.....hehe The attachments are great....Dust bunnies run screaming.....This is a solid unit....Excellent hose that stretches amazingly far to reach dust and webs.....Numerous suction settings allow you to tone it down for lamp shades etc.......Some say this is a heavy unit, but that depends on your strength....My wife is a pettite little thing...

After having test drove MANY vacuums, this Kenmore Progressive Bagless unit simply beat them all! Dyson, Hoover, Eureka, Electrolux, Kirby, Rainbow, and the many other brands could NOT outperform this vacuum, and beleive me, I have tried them all. Having owned several Hoover, Bissell, and Eureka models that failed to last more than three years each, I broke down and bought the EXPENSIVE models from Kirby and Rainbow in order to possibly get a vacuum that would last Ten or more years...they failed as well. Do yourself a favor and try this vac; it has worked great for me so far and beats the competiton in pulling power and performance hands down.

I bought this vacuum mainly due to the excellent review by **************** and the nice features it has, particularly the belt-less drive. When we bought the vacuum it worked great. Our family has 2 kids, a dog and 2 cats so we use the vacuum quite frequently but care for it well. When it was a year old, the vacuum got EXTREMELY LOUD (comparable to a circular saw). I had to service the vacuum myself because Kenmore customer service is terrible and Sears appliance repair wanted a minimum of $80 to just look at it plus having to keep the vacuum for several weeks. When I had the vacuum open, I discovered the impeller motor housing was a vinyl like plastic held together with what appear to be electrical tape. Turns out the housing split at the electrical tape causing a shreaking/whistling sound while the vacuum ran. I'd replace the tape and about a month later, the housing would split again. Overtime we just put up with the sound. About a 1 year later (Vacuum 2 years old)...

I love it. I have 3 pomeranians and one terrior. This vac. gets up all that hair and believe me, there is a LOT! My last vac. was for quick pick ups only so this Progressive vac had it's work cut out for it when I got it home! I filled that canister dirt holder 5 times the first day! See? I said there was a LOT of dog hair.

We LOVE LOVE LOVE this vacuum cleaner! We have two very furry dogs who shed constantly. This vacuum picks up fur perfectly. We have owned this vacuum for about a year and a half, use it several times a week, and have had absolutely no problems with it. Our previous vacuum constantly needed its belt replaced. Not so with this Kenmore. The only gripe I would have is that it leaves about a 2 inch gap along the sides. However, its performance heavily outweighs this one disadvantage. I would highly recommend this vacuum cleaner to anyone!
