I can see why Consumer Reports rated this the # 1 vacuum overall. We first heard about the Progressive canisters from our cleaning person. She uses all types of vacuums depending on what her clients have, so I asked her as to what type and brand she feels is the best to use. She said hands down canisters....review »
I should mention in the beginning of this review that I clean houses for a living. I work five days a week, cleaning one house a day. I have only had the canister for about six months. The wand is already not working properly. The divots in the wand are pretty much flattened from the wear and tear of...review »

Kenmore Progressive Canister Vacuum with... Ratings and Reviews
Overall, I really like my Kenmore Progressive Canister Vac. It's light, maneuverable and cleans well. However, the small "Power-Mate Jr" (smaller head for cleaning stairs, furniture, etc.) broke in less than a year (I only used it to clean stairs). Fixing it costs more than replacing it, which still isn't cheap.
Problem #2 - I cannot find the "motor safety filter" replacements ANYWHERE. How ridiculous is it to sell your own brand of vacuums (not available anywhere but Sears) and then fail to sell replacement parts on your website or in your stores? On top of that, the part number given in the...review »
I've owned my Kenmore Progressive now for almost two years and I've never owned a better, user-friendly vacuum. It is easy on the back, due to it's lightweight features. But don't this light-weight powerhouse steer you wrong: just because it is not a heavy, clunky and awkward upright, you most definitely are getting a better vacuum than any uprights on the market I've ever owned and it is much easier to use for anyone with back problems. Speaking of the back, you do not have to worry about bending (or tripping over a ton of cords) thanks to the telescoping wand that adjusts to the height you...review »
DO NOT BUY THIS VACUME! Burnes holes in carpet and flooring. Wand will not stand on it's own. Extreamely top heavy. Falling over into walls funiture ect. MUST turn off power to head before removing quick release handle to run wand along stairs, trim walls or any piece of funiture. Older model you didn't have too. Tools are extreamly cheeply made. Shorter in design. Crevice tool doesn't reach anywhere... Dust brush and fabric brush tool combination are a pain to seperate for use...
Replaced old Kenmore model 116.2501290 (which I loved) with this piece of junk. Choose this model over the...review »
I live in Arizona and of course this being the desert and all, we have a LOT of dust. That's just part of living in the desert southwest, but I absolutely wanted a unit that posessed good air filtration. I replaced an upright cleaner which did not filter the air satisfactorily. I purchased this vacuum on sale and as such was happy with the price paid.
Things I like about this vacuum:
*Rubberized wheels do not scratch hardwood floors.
*Horsehair bristles on the PowerMate and attachments are gentle on wood furniture, etc.
*PowerMate Jr. is a great tool for stair cleaning. The stair grip swivel...review »
We purchased this vacuum after a lot of online AND in store research and decided this was a better deal than the Miehle with the same features. We have tried to use it correctly (right settings, etc.) but it's not working out. First of all, it weighs 25 plus pounds. The Power Mate Jr. for upholstery and stairs made my hands swell both times I used it for less than 20 minutes each. The unit is just TOO heavy for a woman with small hands to hold. The settings on the handle require a person with NO fingernails AND a lot of strength in fingers to change from floor/carpet/off. I should have bought...review »
Although we installed an inhouse vacuum system, we realized that you still need a portable vacuum, so this replaced our aged and worn out Kenmore circa 1980's.
For the money, this vacuum seems well built. I tend now to use it more than the inhouse vacuum system. The attachments all snap under the cover, including the small vacuum head for drapes etc. They are somewhat hard to snap in and out, but not a big problem.
The vacuum has enough suction and the small head has more than enough.
Consumer Reports rated this vacuum very high, and you can certainly pay double or more for an upscale brand if...review »
I have recently become single and this caused me to purchase many new items. My new living space had fresh carpet installed the day after I moved in. I knew this would be a challenge for any vacuum. The carpet was fuzzier than expected and the machine worked well for some time but the red warning light came on in just five minutes of work. It took me some time to figure out the hose was blocked and another hour to clear it. (do they make a tool for this?) Being aware of the potential for clogging I was careful not to over do it and removed fuzz from the bag as I went along. After several cleanings...review »
I really do like this vacuum cleaner. I love the telescoping wand, the on/off switch on the handle, the quiet motor when using it on carpet, its light weight, the powermate Jr. I don't have much carpet, mostly bare floors and the main sweeper could work a little better on bare floors. It would probably be great for large open spaces, but if you have to dodge furniture, it's just easier to use the floor attachment. The one thing I liked better on my old Kenmore was the placement of the cord. On this one, I practically have to pick up the whole thing and turn it over to pull the cord out--engineers...review »
I have owned a dyson, dirt devil, hoover and more and I have not found a more easy to use vacuum in my life. I always know just where to find the bags and filters and my local store in Winona is always more than willing to find replacement parts as well. My daughter happened to loose one of the attachments and I had a new one in a week. The light weight design and its ability to clean in any location of my house makes it a breeze to use. To anyone looking to get one I would suggest haveing a demonstration in the store and asking to hear all of the differences because this one was a lot easier to...review »
When I first bought my house ten years ago I bought a kenmore canister vac and it was put through the wringer with 4 boys in the house. The hose had been run over. It got dropped down the stairs more than once. I am terrible about having things serviced regularly and it is still running and still doing a good job (on 3 wheels I might add). When I decided to get another vac for the upstairs so I wouldn't have to carry them up and down the steps, I immediately went back to Sears for the newer version of my old friend. The body is a little less durable looking than the original but it is holding up...review »
3 kids, 5 birds, 3 cats, 1 long haired dog, an iguana, oh, and a husband......need I say more??? This vacuum it the BEST! I took a long time and did alot of research from animal breeders, etc...on the BEST vacuum for our home, which has all wood floors, with area rugs. Those of you that have pets and wood floors know the tumbleweeds of pet hair that roll around the floor, and under the couch....this took care of all of it, every inch! Under the radiators, couch, counters, and the rugs. The attatchment for the upolstry is a great addition! I feel good using this vacuum, no "kick-back" of dirt hitting...review »
This vacuum is great! It does a fantastic job on hardwood and carpets. I really recommend it because of its great features such as telescopic wand, long cord/hose, easy realeases and onboard tools. A feature I really love this vacuum does not have is the dirt sensor but if you have an extra $50 you can get that feature on the more expensive model. I picked this one since it was rated #1 on consumer reports. The kenmore pregressive 25614/25615 has outstanding suction power. It really does take off on its on!!!!!!!Its like self propelled but a thousand times better. I also recomend that protection...review »
The only reason I'm not rating this vacuum on durability is because I've only had it less than a month. But now I wonder why I didn't retire my little 29-year-old $99 Hoover canister sooner. This is one kick-butt little picker-upper. The wheels on the Turbo attachment make it easy to use, it sucks up dirt like an upright, and the on-off switch on the handle is very handy. My only beefs are: a) that the only small attachment suitable for steps is the little mini-Turbo, which kicks butt but is sometimes like swatting a fly with a nuclear warhead; and b) the HEPA bags are pricey. A small attachment...review »
