funky color, but a great performer!

Kenmore Progressive Canister Vacuum with Variable Power, Orange —

It was time for a new vacuum. First, I bought a cheap Galaxy uprite and the belt kept slipping off. It is now the basement vac. I have a Kenmore Canister that is about 5 years old up at the summer house and I'm happy with it. I decided to spend the "big bucks" on a new Kenmore Canister. I got the Sedona (despite the Orange color) because it was a closeout special that had been returned by another customer. It was serviced and I checked it out to be sure it was OK. I also got the Merchandise Protection for it for 5 years. I believe these types of agreements are useless on some products but I think you get your moneys worth when it comes to vacuums. The Sedona works great. The 8' hose makes it easier to use compared to the 6' hose on my other canister. The additional 2' feet of hose allows cleaning a greater area and moving the canister around less often. I'm surprised at how useful the LED lights are on the wand. The light shines brightly and is aimed well so you can really see better when using attachments under the bed for instance. It also throws a good patch of bright light in front of the powerhead that shows the pet hair before and after to be sure it is gone. I took the vac in for warranty service already because a plastic door broke and it was back in my house 3 days later all fixed, no charge. I have the powermate gizmo on my older Kenmore but there is no place on the canister to store it. I really appreciate that there is a storage compartment for the powermate on the Sedona. No more searching for it in the closet. The powermate does a great job on my car interior and is wonderful for removing the car hair from the convertible top. One of our cats seems to think the car is his special bed. With 2 dogs (Sheltie, and Pomeranian) and 4 cats the vacuum is getting plenty of use. As Consumer Reports indicated the Kenmore Canisters rated highly and this one lives up to the rating. The dirt sensor seems to work when it comes to vacuuming up stray kitty litter. I wait until it goes from red to green in "high litter" areas to be sure I'm pulling up litter that may have settled down into the nap of the carpet. I bought the Sedona because I wanted the extra hose length. Now I realize that the light is really another good reason to be pleased with the vacuum, and the dirt sensor is kind of fun to watch as I vacuum.
