Kenmore Progressive Canister Vacuum with Variable Power, Orange —
bought this about a month or 2 ago. i was going to buy the one in consumer reports, but this was the same with the added bonus of the variable power, so i got it instead. the color is just awful, but i didn't buy it for appearances. i had considered an electrolux because it supposedly did a really good job and was better at pet hair, but after doing my research, opted for this one. the electrolux apparently has major reliability issues...beware.
i have 2 cats and 3 dogs and a toddler. though i've only had this for a couple of months, it's doing a good job. we have mostly bare floors with some carpet, and the power head does well on both. i have opted to remove the power head for more thorough "cleaning" of the bare floors, time permitting. otherwise, the power head is fine for quick jobs.
i have not used the upholstery head yet, but have some furniture in need...may or may not update my review as i am on dial up.
this machine is replacing a cheap hoover upright. i already love it way more, but my husband is not used to the canister way of doing things and doesn't like having to drag something around after him. we had a canister when i was a kid, so i knew what i was getting myself into...
the hepa filter is actually a part of the bag, so don't opt for a cheaper replacement bag unless you don't need the hepa. there is absolutely no dust coming out of this sucker when i use it, even around the litter boxes. the hoover used to have a cloud of dust come out just when it was turned on...
the variable power is doing a great job at not eating throw rugs, though the low power is still strong enough to suck up the ends. i have not tried it on curtains...probably won't...
i have already accidently sucked up a screw and a couple of nails, and no damage to report.
i would give this 5 stars all the way if the color were better, and if the consumer reports test gave it a higher pet hair score (i can't tell if it is getting up all of the hair off the carpet, and the sensor - while helpful - is unreliable).
i've found mine...good luck finding yours!!!
