Kenmore Progressive Upright Vacuum Cleaner with Inteli-Clean System Slate Blue (35922) —

I originally wrote a review back in March or April 09 and as I promised I would re-write my review now that I have had time to live with it. In the original review I wrote that I had recently blown out my shoulder so moving it was painful, I am still rehabbing the shoulder but it is still just as difficult to push and I am back up to lifting very heavy weights. This vacuum is HEAVY...so it is not for the faint of heart or weak. If you are a lovely little old lady or gentleman I would search elsewhere.

If you have whole house, or mainly installed carpeting thoughout your house then this is the vacuum to get, regardless of weight unless you have a bunch of stairs to carry it up and down, otherwise keep on looking for something lighter.

I searched for weeks after purchasing to find an attachment for the hose to be able to vacuum the wood floors...no such luck nothing fit the plastic extension rod...that would have made this vacuum robust and useful for almost all floors. Small area rugs are a downfall for this cleaner....it will suck it up regardless of the power setting, larger area rugs are generally okay. The hand vac roller attachment is not quite useless, but it definitely does NOT live up to the hype (from past experience most on board tools fit this category.)

The rollers are so powerful that if you do not have the height adjustment right you will feel debris hitting your feet behind the vacuum, Sears HEPA bags for this vac are expensive BUT they are so far the better HEPA bags I have found. Other bags that promise ultra filtration like the Arm & Hammer Febreze bags do work excellently in this vac, much better than the normal Sears high filtration bags and are less expensive. I wind up doing an alternating routine of 2 ultra high bags and then 1 HEPA bag...I usually get about 4 vacuums out of it before it is full. (we are now down to 7 dogs and 3 cats, but welcome to heavy shedding breeds).

OH! and within 3-4 months the handle cushioning on the vac began to peel away again defeating the purpose of cushioning.

If you do NOT have an ultra high filtration or HEPA bag installed you will notice fine dust accumulating allllll over the place, generally defeating the purpose of dusting and cleaning.

All in all it is a decent vacuum, but in retrospect I am now wishing I had purchased the Kenmore (a rebranded Panasonic) canister vac instead. We are thinking of giving this vac to our kid whose whole house is carpet...

As for the would I recommend to a friend, it would depend on their house and what needs to be vacuumed.
