This is the best cleaning vacuum I have ever owned. This is one of the few vacuums that has a direct drive system for the agitator roller brush. This gives more power to the the brush to keep it rotating at higher speeds and get more dirt out of the carpet. The dirt sensor is very easy to read and you know when an area of the carpet has been cleaned satisfactorily.

I do not like having to manage bags, a HEPA filter and a sponge filter. The HEPA filters are not too expensive, but its another item that you to keep in stock and change on a regular basis.

I do not think these vacuums are built to last. I know a few people that have owned these vacuums for a few years and all of them have had something repaired. Just recently I smelled an electric burning smell coming from the exhaust air of my vacuum. I diagnosed the problem and determined that the fan motor was going bad. I've been using this ridiculous machine for over a year . It's monstrously large and heavy, unwieldly, and doesn't seem to roll freely at all. Edge cleaning's poor, of course don't even think of getting it under a bed or dresser without changing attachments. Wrestling it downstairs (am a 100 lb 5'4" non-athletic woman) is a dangerous, royal pain-in-the-butt ! And vacuuming stairs ? Forget about it.

It does snarf up the dirt well enough, I suppose.

I suppose I could channel some of my deep reserve of loathing and resentment to help me propel the thing.

I love this vacuum. Had to get away from the old wind canister vacuum, it was just putting the allergens right back in the air. Noticed a difference the very first time I used it.

Yes, the vacuum doesn't edge but that's what the wand is for. A vacuum is not going to replace edging ALL the floors. It is heavy and I like that because if the vacuum is stationary while I'm using the floor sweeper or the edger and I stretch the tube, the vacuum doesn't fall down on me like lighter models.

Amazing vacuum, it's used 2-4 times a week for the last 2 years and I tell ya, my house is cleaner, my allergies are down big time. Thank you Sears!!! PS my brother has had one for years, worry free :)

I hate this vacuum cleaner for many reasons: it's heavy, cumbersome, doesn't clean close to walls, attachments come apart during use, both hands are needed to remove/secure hose, and brush attachment kept falling out of it's holder (until I wrapped painter's tape around the shaft, making it a tighter fit so it no longer falls out). For the money I spent on this, I now have to use it until I won't feel guilty giving it to Goodwill. I used to own a Fantom Fury and LOVED IT. The hose was accessible for easy use, and it had the capability to vacuum in high places....

The Kenmore Progressive Upright Vacuum Cleaner is very impractical if you live in a normal house. If, in your normal house, you have carpeted stairs, please do not buy this vacuum. If you ignore this warning, I personally garauntee that you will become very frustrated, which will lead you to either act out aggressivley towards your vacuum, or talk an innocent bystander's ear off about how much you hate it. If you have carpeted stairs, DO NOT BUY.

Also, if you would like to end up with an inch and a half of uncleaned carpet all along your walls, go ahead, spend the money and don't look back because this baby is for you! However, if having to go back and do the edges some other way bugs you as much as it does me, DO NOT BUY. This vacuum just doesn't like walls, so no matter how far back you tilt it or how hard you ram it into the wall, it's just not happening. I mean, I have a dog that sheds like mad and he absolutely adores that area that is just at the bottom of the steps,...

We purchased the Kenmore Progressive upright vacuum cleaner based upon the recommendation of a 'leading consumer magazine'. It was on sale and the price was right. Although it was quite heavy and took some lifting to get it upstairs; we were satisfied with its performance. There was one major problem, however. All of the outlets in the second story of our town home are protected by arc fault breakers (ARC). Every time that the vacuum cleaner was plugged in upstairs; as soon as the brushes kicked in, the breaker associated with that outlet switched off. I consulted with an electrician and his only thought that at the moment the brushes began turning there must have been some electrical surge that was greater than the size of the breakers. Even though the machine was rated at 15 amps and the breakers were 20 amps, it still tripped them.

So being unable to use the vacuum upstairs (unless we plugged into the GFIoutlet i the bathroom). Due to that problem we had to return it. I asked at Sears...

The ONLY bad thing I can say about this vac is that I wish the brush was angled differently or there was a ceiling brush. Other than that I couldn't ask for a better vac!

I bought my Kenmore Progressive in April from a Sears associate who recommended I get a Dyson instead. Being budget-conscious, I went with the Kenmore. My disappointment begins with the fact that the hose and wand attachments are very flimsy and tend to come apart in the middle of vacuuming. Further, we track tiny pieces of blue stone on to the kitchen floor and this machiine does not have enough suction to pick them up. I use my Eurika Cordless Quickup to get them. This upright is so heavy that I have to get someone else to carry it upstairs for me--and I do plenty of other heavy jobs around my home. Frequently the hose comes loose from its space while I am using the upright on rugs and I have to stop and secure it again. The design of the machine is such that it will not fit under furniture. When I tilt it back to get under furniture the handle will not go low enough so that it lifts the whole vacuum off the floor so that it won't clean.

I buy a vacuum about once every 15 years and...

I love this vacuum. You can use the floor setting to do light rugs. When u do regular carpet and use the inteli-clean, it senses how much suction is needed.

After vacuuming, my floors seem very clean. I love it.

After two months of normal use, the hose detached from the back--at a place where the hose is not supposed to detach. Returned it to the store for an exact replacement. The warranty started anew the day I picked up the replacement. I hope the first vacuum was an isolated incident.

I like the vacuum's suction power and Inteli-Clean feature for the area rugs. Although it picks up most stuff on the tile floors, I've seen it blow away some particles as well. The attachments work well along wall edges.

I find placing the hose back in it's holder at the bottom a bit difficult, but I do like that there is an ample length of hose to work with.

If it weren't for the hose coming off at a place where it's not supposed to, I would have given it four stars.

I've had this vacuum for three years, and I just purchased new shag carpet. The Hi setting/carpet which I was told by the salesperson to use, does not permit the vacuum to roll properly over the carpet. Plus, I have roller brush marks throughout the carpet. It's extremely difficult to push and pull the vacuum across my new carpet. I'm also concerned that the vacuum motor will burn. I'm not a strong person, so I will definitely need to purchase a new vacuum or risk physical injury to myself.

This vacuum has a lot of suction power. It cleans very well.

We stick with the cloth hepa bags, but those bags last quite a long time until they are full.

All in all, we are very happy with it's cleaning power.

I had been looking for a new sweeper for a while, when a friend recommended this one to me. I love it. It works great, and doesn't wear me out pushing it around the house. Not so loud that it scares my dog, who doesn't run away and hide when it comes out.

I really love my Kenmore Progressive upright vacuum, I have two dogs with alot of dog hair all over and this is the first vacuum that picks up all the dog hair, even when they come in with mud on their paws, I just let the mud dry and vacuum it up and "WOW" all gone mud. I've had my vacuum for 1 year and I think it great. For a great price you really get a good vacuum

I have had this vacuum for one year now and I have been super happy with it.

The first few times vacuuming it takes a bit longer with the intelli-clean because it is catching up on all the years I vacuumed with a less deep cleaning vacuum. The intelliclean lit up to red on all of our carpets (both at home and at the office) and after working for a awhile catching up it eventually went to green). After the initial couple times the carpet took much less time because the amount of imbedded dirt was substantially reduced. I have to admit that the carpet looked so much better - very revitalised, and it motivated me to WANT to vacuum. The housekeeper loved this vacuum too and stopped bringing her own vacuum because she hated our old vac so much and she could feel how much better of a job the vacuum did. Under the beds was HORRIFIC and took an extended amount of time to get all the dirt up and to get the intelliclean to go to green. The intelliclean lets you know if it is still dirty...

My wife and I love this vacuum. LIving in Tucson we get lots of dust in the house. This vacuum does a super job and cleaning both carpets and tile floors. Only reason I didn't rate it a 5 is that a small plastic part by the pedal that makes the handle recline broke somewhat prematurely. That piece should be engineered from something other than plastic. However, we had purchased the extended warranty and it was fixed during one of our "free" annual services. Part is only about $7 and can be easily replaced by the homowner with a simple screwdriver.

We were so impressed with the Kenmore Progressive Upright Vacumm that we bought another one for the second floor. We like the long hose for use with the attachments for doing stairs and reaching other surfaces in need of cleaning.

We have a combination of carpet, hard wood and tile floors and this vacuum cleans them all.

I am very happy with my Progressive bagged vacuum. I have had bagless vacumms in the past and am tired of having to dump the container & try to clean the filter - or buy new filters as ridiculous prices. I would rather pull out the bag & simply throw it away. The suction is great, although I agree with other viewers that the edge cleaning is not up to par - and there is too much suction for rug/matt cleaning. With that being said I will deal with it, because I like this vacuum so much better than all the other brands I have tried.

THIS IS WITHOUT A DOUBT THE WORST VACCUUM I'VE EVER BOUGHT. WE TOOK OUR VACCUUM INTO BE REPAIRED IT WAS MAKING AN AWFUL SOUND, WEVE ONLY HAD IT SINCE OCT 2009. THE REPAIR PEOPLE SAID THERE WAS SOMETHING STUCK IN THE HOSE. THERE WAS'NT. REPAIR SVC HAD OUR VACCUUM FOR 2 WEEKS, GUESS WHAT? ITS DOING IT AGAIN, I'M SO FRUSTRATED WITH THIS VERY EXPENSIVE VACCUUM, I'M AT MY WITS END, I CALLED THE VACCUUM HELP LINE. THEY NEVER RETURNED MY CALL. WE HAVE A 1 YEAR WARRANTY ON IT, IT DOES NO GOOD IF THE VACCUUM IS GOING TO BE AT THE SVS SHOP FOR 2 WEEKS, IT DOES NOT PICK UP THE SMALL STUFF, STRING. SAND, WE BOUGHT A LEMON..
