Good quality filter, somewhat expensive.

I agree with most of the other posts here.  You can get a cheaper aftermarket filter, but as that person said, those filters are cheaper in both quality and price.  I haven't tried vacuuming the hepa filter when changing the pre-filter, but I will try that this time around.

Also, while SearsPartsDirect...

Backorder forever-make one

I have had my kenmore air filter for years. I needed to replace the filter but they are on backorder ..forever. Someone, somewhere said you can make your own. I tried it- it WORKS. Go out and get a 16x20 furnace HEPA air filter rated for allergens, get the best one you can find. Take out the old filter... read full review »

Very Effective!

I think it is way too costly.

We have had this system for six years now and replace the HEPA about every 18 months. Vacuum it off with each pre-filter change and extend the life. Tried another system and did about half as good as this one for almost the same cost!

OEM Replacement Filters

Check out FiltersUSA.com, FiltersFast.com or NationalAllergy.com for OEM as well as lesser cost aftermarket replacement filters. I've tried both, the aftermarket has a frame made of cardboard instead of plastic so its not as tight a fit, but at half the cost you decide. Not really sure if there is a performance loss in going with the after market replacement. I continue to buy the Whirlpool OEM filters (1183051K) as long as there available and under $80 / filter.

filter cost

The cost of hepa filter is $109.00. I think that it is pricey. The unit itself is quiet and works well

Awesome machine

Ive had several of these Hepa air cleaners for more than 10 years. I keep upgrading to larger ones. The hepa filter is a bit pricey but I only need to replace it yearly, and If I want to wait another several months it still works great. I vacumn the prefilter often and repace them twice a year. I did a lot of research before I purchased these. They are highly rated and actually work and do what they claim. When one divides the cost over 12 months it comes out to about 10 dollars a month to breathe healthier cleaner air. Im all for that. I feel like my health is worth the investment. Im not going... read full review »

Go to PartsDirect!

No worries.  If you are looking for replacement filters, enter your unit's model number in the PartsDirect website.  The stores don't carry the older units' parts any longer so you won't be able to order them here.  But PartsDirect has all the replacement parts.

Great filter, terrible price.

I'm amazed at how expensive these filters are ... especially considering the frequency of replacement necessary to keep them working effectively. These are by far one of the more expensive filters ... but the filter fan itself is quiet, it can be placed against a wall unlike other filter fans, and it works.

Hepa Quality

Other posted complained about the price, I did my research before buying my unit and found this is one of the best hepa filters you can get on the market even close to this price. Filter is found in unit #83200 which works INCREDIBLY well. A little research goes a long way and pricing out filters is part of it. Expensive, yes, worth being able to breathe in your own home, definitely worth the $99 a year. Ranks up there in the "Best money spent" list for me.

bad allergies

My whole family has to seek allergy treatment from an allergist. The doctor recommended hepa filtration systems. We purchased 4 units, one for each bedroom and one for the family room. We are extremely pleased with this system. There is dramatic change in the amount of dust. The filters are expense but if you truly have a child with allergies or asthma in your family you will greatly appreciate the quality and the effectiveness of these units.

Kenmore Large HEPA filter

Fits fine in my 10 year old kenmore air cleaner, seems to work well. Wish they were cheaper, though and  they never seem to go on sale.

Filter Cost Unreasonable!

HEPA filters are way too expensive! Not worth the expense of multiple machine purchases.
