i bought this machine and just ended up loving it. i use to hate sewing by hand, but now i never have to ever again.
i really love that it has so many button funtions. i would definetly recommend this to everyone who is so sick and tired of sewing things by hand. this product saves time and it never...
This machine has 11 stitches! A number of functions for each 11 stitches. These functions barely change the look of each stitch. The stitches you see on the machine, that's the stitches you get! I was very disappointed when I realized this. In the instructions, it shows you different ways to use these...

I think this machine is great. I only have one problem. I would like a cabinet mounting bolt so I can attach the machine to my sewing cabinet. I tried looking it up in the manual, checked the website, and called Sears, but to avail. Apparently, the bolt is no longer sold. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks
Just picked up this machine the other day and my 9 year old wanted to make a gym bag right away. I've never used a sewing machine before, so I thought this was going to be really difficult. But it wasn't!!! The instructions in the owners manual on how to set it up, clear jams, handle the bobbin amongst other things are very easy to understand; the pictures actually help you figure out what you're doing. I would definitely recommend this to anyone just starting out.
This is a great machine! I usually beg my mother to sew/mend things for me. When her 30 year old machine died, I knew I was in trouble. I had to drag out my hardly used sewing genie machine(if you have used one of these, you'll understand my reluctance). When the sewing genie jammed beyond repair, I decided to break down and buy a real machine for my minor sewing needs. I am so glad I did. This is so much better than the sewing genie that I occasionally used. I was quite nervous about using a "real" machine(it has been over 25 years since I used one in home ec). It was such a breeze. I should have...read full review »
This machine is really easy to set up just by following the instructions. I started to sew in an hour although I had never sewed on an electric sewing machine before.
I would recommend to get the metal bobbins as only two plastic bobbins came with the unit. The needle set contains 3 No. 14 needles which will be useful for heavier fabrics.
I am a lifetime seamstress, and bought this machine for my 25-yr-old daughter for Christmas. She's just learning, but after briefly inspecting the machine, my impression is that this will be a good basic, starter machine for her, at a very reasonable price (I got a great deal on it.) Since she wants to learn to quilt, I also got the quilting attachment set, which look like they will be very useful. I did look at some other machines in this price range, including some used, but none seemed to be of Kenmore's quality and ease of use. I also read reviews of all the machines that I was considering....read full review »
My old Kenmore of about 35 years recently gave up the ghost. When looking for a replacement machine obviously I came back to Kenmore. Since I am not a serious seamstress (baby quilts, occasional projects etc) I only really needed a basic machine. Reading the reviews and doing a little homework this one seemed like a perfect match.
Setting up the machine was pretty straight forward, threading is easier than on the old machine. I do miss the metal construction of the old machine and don't expect this plastic replacement to last as long as the old one did but that is true of pretty much anything...read full review »
Good basic machine for those who don't do any fancy stuff like me. Wish the reverse lever was sturdier, and it can be a little touchy at times, but overall it's well worth the very reasonable price.
I've recommended it to several others looking for a basic machine.
And you really can't beat Sear for being able to find the parts and accessories when you need them!!
I'd give it a four and a half stars but that wasn't an option, so gave it four.
I took sewing lessons, and our class used a variety of brand new $600-$3000 machines. I thought I'd get sewing machine envy. Well, there's nothing those super-fancy models will do that this one can't. I was always glad to go home and get back to using my fun little Kenmore.
It's light, it's simple and it's easy to use. In my experience, it jammed up much less frequently than the fancier machines or the 1980's era one it replaced. Accessories are were cheap to purchase and it was easy to find compatible ones. I was able to quilt a lap-sized quilt with no problems-- there was even plenty of room...read full review »
I'm used to saws and hammers and such. I needed to get some things sewn and decided I could do this myself I don't need to ask for help. After looking around I decided to go with the less expensive model in the store. After reading the first couple pages... (I didn't know where to put the thread or what a bobbin was) I was up and rolling/sewing. No problems and the instruction manual actually helped. I should read those more often.
I bought my little Kenmore two months ago now and absolutely love this little machine. I wish it had a few more stitch functions, but with a little creativity I've been able to make up for the stitches it's missing. For the price, this Kenmore blows the competition out of the water. I've easily logged 70+ hours on the machine now, and it still sounds like it did when I bought it. It sews easily through multiple layers of thick fabric. The automatic needle threader is a snap to use (once you get the hang of it ...I'm all thumbs). I honestly can't remember how I ever threaded a needle without one...Get...read full review »
I bought this as a Christmas gift for my 17 year old daughter and me. We are both beginners and wanted an inexpensive machine that we could use now to learn on and had a few features that we could have fun with after we got a little more skill. I researched dozens of machines online and found this one to be the best fit for features, price and reputation. When I found out that Janome makes Kenmore, I was sold. Janome is a highly respected maker but machines sold under their name are more expensive.
This machine is lightweight, easily portable and the size is right for both of us. We don't have...read full review »
I hadn't touched a sewing machine in almost 20 years when I decided I wanted to try it out again. I wanted a machine that would be easy enough for me to figure it out, yet good enough to grow with me a bit. I have had this just for about a month, but so far it is great. Plus the instructions are easy to follow, I really thought threading & the bobbin would be a headache but it was easy. Plus, for the price (I also found a $10 coupon, can't beat that) you can't beat it. Everyone knows me as a "researcher", I won't buy something until I research the best option, and this was definitely it.
