The Kenmore Solid State Automatic Iron Filter Model 625.4234922 was installed in July 2009 ahead of a Culligan Homemaker Water Softener (Control Head was upgraded in Oct 2007 after 29 years) and GE inline Water Filter to solve a brown slushy component and small Iron content well water problem that had...

Seems to do a good job but many repairs

First, let me help the previous reviewer out by telling you the replacement Pot Permanganate tank is $45 and it is part # 3441799 from Sears. You can also buy the chemical in bulk but since my tank cracked I had to buy a new one and it comes with 6 lbs of chemical which lasts about 1-2 years. We have... read full review »

KENMORE IRON FILTER

I bought the Kenmore Solid State Automatic Iron Filter model# 625.3492209 and it is SUPER FANTASTIC!! I have had none of the problems some of the others are talking about. The replacement chemical is Part# 3441799 Rep'l bottle (incl. 6 lbs. potassium permanganate) $45 and should last at least 2 yrs. My water was so bad it would turn a white wash rag orange after 2 showers and was impossible to drink. It tasted like you were drinking out of a rusted can. After I connected my filter and flushed out my hot water heater the water is iron free according to the sears test center. I did put a small pre... read full review »

Highly Satisfied

I am extremely happy with my water now. We have 11 PPM clear water iron, and 14 grains of hardness that would ruin white clothing and stain the sinks / tubs / toilets / appliances... NO LONGER!! I installed this iron filter, and the Kenmore 420 water filter next to it, to replace a GE softener unit that failed after 10 years and the water has been great; Clear, taste and odor free, and SOFT. Even though I have it set to backflush nightly, the Potassium Permaganate it uses seems almost untouched after two months.. Now that The iron is removed prior to going through the softerner, the softener does... read full review »

this thing works!!!

i was very sceptical to purchase such an expensive product over the internet, but I must say this product is remarkable. I had a professional plumber install it, and all i can say is that it works. We purchased an older home that had an existing iron problem for the last 20 years. We were unable to drink the water, or even do laundry without discoleration of our clothes. two days after installation we are able to drink water from any tap in our house. It is truly remarkable. I would strongly recommend this product to both friend and stranger alike.

Direct replacement

This iron filter is a direct replacement of a Kenmore unit that lasted more than 12 years. In the 12 years time I cleaned the small screen in the injection unit and replaced the chemicals and chemical the bottle head once. I haven't installed the new iron filter yet because the unit was shipped wrong. The service in the store was much to be desired, no one know what they were doing. The paper work used to reorder a replacemnet unit came out of a 3 ring binder, looked like a copy of a copy and had a date from 2004 on it. I'm worried that I might have paid for the wrong unit. No one in the store... read full review »

Works great, potss. a challenge!

We replaced an old, old Culligan system (manual kind) with this automatic filter. It works great, our iron content is off the charts it's so high and this takes care of it great. Trying to get the refill container w/ chemicals is nuts! The owner's manual says to change it every 3 months....we've had it for 5 and the level has barely gone down. The salespeople know nothing about the replacement tub....they tried to sell me a 3 ounce "refill" container that was the size of a trial shampoo bottle! NOT WHAT WE NEEDED! Good thing the owners manual does have the replacement parts number....expensive... read full review »

It works but......

I have a prefilter as well but I keep having problems with the Nozzle and Venturi getting clogged. Once this happens the system can not draw the Potassium Permaganate into the resin bed. This is not covered by the warranty and is hard to detect by the casual user. I feel this is a main flaw because the nature of the water this filter is designed to clean cloggs the nozzle and venturi. It also seems that once clogged the venturi cloggs quicker and quicker causing the filter to fail.If there has been a redesign of this issue I would love to be informed.
