Kenmore Vertical Gas Smoker —

My brother has this unit and likes it.  My husband was quite interested in it, so I bought this as an early Christmas present for him.  What a terrific idea!  The unit is easy to use and the propane tank beats charcoal hands down.  My husband lines the drip pan with aluminum foil which makes it easier to clean.  We have smoked pork and fish thus far, and plan to smoke one of our Thanksgiving turkeys.  Surprisingly, the less expensive cuts of meat turn out the best ~ pork loin is good; pork shoulder is even better ~ probably because there's more marbled fat.  Smoked dilled salmon and smoked Codfish are excellent when smoked on a cedar plank in the unit.  Red potatoes cut into chunks, brushed with olive oil & Rosemary, and cooked in a foil pan along with the meat are absolutely mouth-watering when smoked.  We're still at the experimentation stage and, if need be, we look online for ideas.  It would be nice to have a pamphlet with a few tips & recipes to get started, but the 'trial & error' method seems to be working for us.  I don't think you can actually ruin anything if the unit is kept on low heat.  Being able to regulate and maintain the temperature is a true plus.  When turned to a higher temp., the unit becomes an oven, which increases its versatility.  Good job, Sears!
