I like this smoker for the space and sizes. It could be better sealed to hold in more of the smoke but it works okay. Easy access through the front. Make sure you use larger chunks of wood - the chips get burned through pretty quickly. Assembly was pretty simple, no challenges there. So far so good, I'd recommend it BUT be aware that it doesn't hold all the smoke in.
This smoker has performed very well for me. It absolutey provides a well smoked meat flavor.
The temperature stays where you set it (with the exception of a sudden increase or decrease in outside temperature.) If your weather is pretty constant or makes slow changes throughout the day then you will be fine, but if you choose to use this on a day where a rain storm might appear or a day when a very hot sun is overhead, you must pay close attention to the temperature of the smoker or it will vary wildly. But this can be a problem for any smoker.
The other problem I have is that I can set the...
This is my second smoker, first was a charcoal smoker. I wanted a smoker that would be more convenient, so I would not have to constantly watch it. This smoker really fills the bill. Using propane allows almost unattended cooking, along with the large wood chip box which lasts up to 1.5 hours and the large water pan. With the burner set at about 1/2 this keeps a constant temp of 250 degrees, even in windy weather. Buy this one, you won't be disappointed.
My brother has this unit and likes it. My husband was quite interested in it, so I bought this as an early Christmas present for him. What a terrific idea! The unit is easy to use and the propane tank beats charcoal hands down. My husband lines the drip pan with aluminum foil which makes it easier to clean. We have smoked pork and fish thus far, and plan to smoke one of our Thanksgiving turkeys. Surprisingly, the less expensive cuts of meat turn out the best ~ pork loin is good; pork shoulder is even better ~ probably because there's more marbled fat. Smoked dilled salmon and smoked...
read full review »The vertical gas smoker is well worth the price. As stated look for deals. I took the floor model for $150. Bought it due to good reviews on "smoking" websites.
Had to put a handle on the wood chip box so I could remove it while hot.
The Unit does run hot, especially in the sun. Hard to keep below 250f.
Gets hot enough to use as a spare oven. 450f is no problem.
Would have given 5 stars if the was a double walled model.
This smoker makes food so good, your dog will fight you for the bone!
I've used charcoal smokers for years, but this was my first gas smoker and it seemed to be a good value--and I wasn't disappointed. It's easy to regulate the heat and holds a steady temperature--225 seems to be the favorite for smoking, and the water pan doesn't have to refilled very often. The great thing is not having to add charcoal during long cooking times, like cooking overnight.
And the smoked flavor is excellent. Whole chickens turn out beautifully and I've also smoked ham, ribs and sausage and, as I write this, I'm...
read full review »I have been looking at getting a smoker since christmas time. I want to make venison snack sticks instead of paying an arm and a leg to have somebody else do it for me. I have been all over and doing all kinds of research and had almost spent in excess of $200 depending on cabellas or bass pro. The local sears hardware is going out of business and I seen they had the vertical propane smoker and it looked like it was everything I needed. Not as insulated as I wanted but it would do for my purposes. I came home and read your reviews and decided that the $179 dollar price tag marked down...
