I used this for 2 years, moved and gave it away.  Regret that as I can't find them in the Sears stores anymore (both online and in the stores.)  Hope Sears would reintroduce this.

To previous posts about the buildup problem:  this is a problem with the water.  The harder the water, the more/faster...

Worth it if you get on sale

I've bought 2 of these, and 5 distillers in my life. The boiler in this unit fails after about 365 distillations. I bought my first for full price of $225, my second new for $55 through a clearance sale 3rd party. Where I live it costs about $0.30 cents to distill 1 gallon of water in electricity. It... read full review »

This is a very good product because I truly can taste the GOOD water.  People can spend money to buy water such as distill water ... etc.  How do we know?

However, this product is discontinued.  Very Sad.........

What are those sediments?!

Why subject my kidneys and liver to the cleanup of the nasty chemicals in the tap water when this great distiller can do the filtration so efficiently?! I always wonder what are the chemical compositions of the sediments after each distillation!! I have had two units, one at home and one in the office, for the past three years with no problems at all. I exercise and drink a lot of water and tea. I have bought a unit for my mom and just saw it discounted for $79.99. Can't beat that price. I am going to buy one for my mother-in-law as a Christmas present. This is a perfect gift as it promotes the... read full review »

I would die without it

I purchased by Kenmore water distiller about 2 years ago and have been using it daily. I now drink about a gallon of water per day. The water tastes fresh as it should. I keep the unit clean by using the crystals that break down the minerals in the stainless steel vessel. I use it daily and would recommend it. My smartest purchase ever!

Outstanding Product

I have owned this water purifier now for almost 2 years. I tried reverse-osmosis and other types of purifiers. This is the best water purifier I've seen for the money. I know it works well because I have a Flavia coffee maker that brews a cup of coffee at a time, and has a large water tank on it that I keep filled at all times. I always use water that I've distilled with this purifier. The stainless steel tank stays completely shiny and clean, and I never have to clean mineral deposits from it. In fact it never needs cleaning at all. The coffee tastes great. The distiller works well and is easy... read full review »

All looks good but for a rubber connector...

All the features look good to me but for a Rubber/Silicone part. Just brought the unit and did the first batch of water and the water have a strong (for me) rubber smell. The smell can be traced to a Rubber connector between the Carafe and the condenser coil. I think putting a piece of rubber inside the heat chamber is not a good choice, as the rubber heats up it releases odors that affect the overall quality of the water. It would be preferable to make all parts that will be in contact with the Hot water out of Stainless Steel of other material that does not release vapors or odors. Not sure if... read full review »

I like it & I love it. It's surely not the only water we can drink due to the fact that it is distilled, meaning it has nothing in it but H2O. Still, if we need a 100% pure water we need this one. I even used this water purifier to make schnapps (brandy) and it works great :-) The problem is that the replacement carbon filter is very expensive but it has to be changed about once a year and even if you don't change it it is no big deal. I measured the PPM (parts per million) of the purified water and the display shows 0. Very highly recommended water purifier.

Excellent Purifier, Love the new design~!

We've used Sear's water purifiers for more than 10 years and love this new style. Glad we don't have to lift the top off and pour the water in anymore. Much easier now. Thanks to Sears for continuing to carry these units, as they are a wonderful health benefit by eliminating SALT as well as other impurities from the water, which allowed my Mom to reduce her Blood Pressure medicine. Less salt is good for us all. We use the distilled water for all our cooking and drinking water. We've found that 'city water' has much more additives in it and creates more solids which are left in the boiler than... read full review »

This review is gross, but you will WANT TO BUY

I have had my distiller for five years, and in that time, it has distilled some of the nastiest, sludgiest water in Western Alaska--I estimate 5,000 gallons. From time to time, there will be immense build-up (iron, deposits from animal feces, mystery sludge that makes it into the water supply) in the plug-in carafe and you will have to either use distiller cleaner, elbow grease, or both to get your carafe clean so that you can distlll more water. (Seems like a built in safety feature is that if it gets too hot, it automatically shuts off--too much build up increases the heat.) If you use common... read full review »

Problems with the water purifier

I have been usng Kenmore Water Purifier for about 10 years. When they work they are excellent. However, in my case this product has turned out to be disposable since no repairs are available. The first one lasted about three years and it went dead. The second one also lasted about three years before it also went dead. The third one lasted only two years and the last one not even that. After reading the other reviews, it appears that I have been getting all the lemons. I just wonder what should be done to get a sturdy and durable water purifier.

A good machine but with some flaws

I used this machine for almost a year and a half and it needs to be replaced. I am thinking about buying the same one. It is a good workhorse as I use it at least twice a day. The problem is that when the water holder was not totally pushed in, the distilled water will end up on the counter top and the floor. There is no indicator light to tell you that. Also, the metal rim of the cover got rusted over time - and I don't think it is safe to use when it happens (thus need a replacement). I hope that the designer can improve these problems. Other than that, it does the job.

Best Distiller

I think this is the best distiller, even our friends have one and prefer this one of the first one they purchased. It's really sturdy, I have to balance a toddler on one hip while moving the actual distiller onto the machine and needless to say it's had a few bumps here and there. Yet it still works perfectly! The cleaning isn't as often as I thought it would be and it's really not all that difficult after you do it once or twice. I think the absolute best thing about this machine is that it produces the best water I've ever tasted. Our city water smells like chlorine, has a funky light blue color... read full review »

Distiller

We've been using the Sears distillers for years (probably more than 10). It's easy to use and makes great tasting water. When we started buying the distillers, they lasted three years or more. But the last few have started leaking water on the floor after only a few months. They were replaced under warrenty, but it was difficult to get the replacements because of unknowledgabe sales staff, so it took several trips last time. Still for the cost, this is the best distiller we've found.

Kettle failure

Purchased this unit at its brefore sale premium price, it worked well until after about 90 days. The kettle lining seems to be very thin aluminum or another soft metal and as it creates distilled water under pressure it developed 3 tiny pinholes in the metal lining, leaking and ruining a very expensive $1200 antique tiger oak side board that I had trusted the unit to run on since I never had kenmore products fail on me before. Sears has no replacement part (kettle) available, help could not be reached due to parts customer service seems to always having technical difficulties and they keep hanging... read full review »
