Any water in the tray? In what direction are the ejector fingers pointing? Do you have a frozen fill tube?

Joe:If you open the freezer door and hold the flap by the optic sensor closed does the red light stop flashing? If no and you have a cell phone with a camera hold it up to the sensor and see if it is flashing on the cell phone screen it will flash quick you can't see with the naked eye,if not you have a bad optic sensor. If it is flashing and fill tube is not frozen then your motor module may be broken.Remove ice maker and remove cover to see if plastic gear stays in place when pulled on.

the optics very rarely fail, if the light blinks it is probably OK. the most common problem is the motor module, the gears and components are plastic and regularly break.

Joe:remove cover across front of I.M. back rt hand corner on bottom there is a little screw 1/4" nut driver to remove screw, then remove plastic cover screw is holding in place, now while holing optic sensor flapper door pull I.M. towards you when you get it out far enough you can unplug it,when removed and unplugged remove whit cover on end of I.M. Grab white gear and pull gently if it comes off in your hand replace motor module part # w10190935.

there was frozen water in the tray, took out the ice maker, ejector fingers seemed fine put it back in  fingers moved to face out and up towards the door but i never heard any water move into the tray after that, i stuck a object up the fill tube  not too far  and it didn't seem frozen  any advice? thanks

Joe what position are the ejector fingers in @ this time? should be about 2:00 if looking @ the Icemaker from the front going in a clockwise cycle.

The fingers moved when you put the Icemaker back in? I would double-check the prongs that hold the large white gear in place on the icemaker module.

BTW, if the gear has red lettering on it - it is more prone to fail than if the lettering is blue or black (color changed when Whirlpool changed the gear mold at the factory).
