“WHAT A WONDERFUL FRIDGE!!”

KitchenAid 24.5 cu. ft. Counter-Dept Side-by-Side Refrigerator — 

This is the third refrigerator delivered to us by Sears (not Kitchenaid) in 2 months!! First we ordered the top-of-the-line Kenmore Elite. It was poorly made. The ice/water dispenser panel was pulling away from the door with a 1/4 inch gap on each side between the plastic frame and the door and it looked terrible. Then the freezer drawer handle fell off in my husband's hand on the second day! We called Sears and they came and picked it up after we picked out the new GE 24.6 Profile Artica which lists at $3999. WHAT A NIGHTMARE!!! STAY AWAY FROM THE GE PROFILE ARTICA!! It was terrible! First the ice machine didn't work at all (upon delivery!) so Sears came out to fix the problem and we told the tech about the horrible noise it makes every hour or so for extended periods of time throughout the day and night. We're talking LOUD and ANNOYING!! Then the noises started while he was there and he said "THAT is a problem. It is under warranty but GE will tell you "it's normal". Insist they fix it! We see this problem AND the one you have here with the ice very often and GE knows about it". We called GE and they sent a tech out who handed us a photocopied information sheet from GE which listed every sound known to man printed on it that said were "normal refrigerator noises" and said he couldn't help us. I let him hear a recording I made of the noise on my cell phone. He again said he couldn't help us, he apologized saying GE considers those noises normal and he left. The print out listed (and I'm NOT kidding): Chirping, barking, clicking, gurgling, dripping, hissing, snapping, humming, arcing and tapping!! Then it said "If you are experiencing sounds OTHER THAN these, your refrigerator may require a service call". We would have to turn up the sound on the TV in the living room when the noises started and it was embarrassing when we had guests over that we just purchased a $4000 refrigerator and it sounded like this!! GE should be ashamed of themselves!! I went back to Sears and let the home appliances manager listen to it. The manager (THANKS CARLOS!!) said the noise was "completely unacceptable!" and he made it right. He told me he'd have it picked up and asked us to pick out another fridge. We picked this Kitchenaid (with the wrap-around stainless all over (#KSC25FTMK) and it is a winner! I feel bad about the other reviewer's experience but ours works GREAT and the ONLY complaint I have is that the clear plastic flip-up door for the butter compartment at the top of the refrigerator door is flimsy, unlike the rest of the fridge. The ice/water dispenser in the door works great and it makes and dispenses cold water and ice very quickly and neatly. And the cubes come out whole with very little breakage and chips. It does not shoot out half broken cubes and half crushed ice like the GE Profile Artica and the Artica was so S*L*O*W to dispense ice!!! I timed it once and the Artica dispensed 12 ice cubes (half crushed) in one full minute! Our new Kitchenaid is beautiful, has plenty of room and best of all, it runs efficiently and QUIETLY!! We just love it!!!
