Kitchenaid Superba single convection wall oven Sears 29389 or Kitcheanid KEBS107 —

  1. We compared convection option wall ovens from Bosch, Electrolux, Kenmore Elite, Kitchenaid, & Whirlpool.
  2. D/t concern for parts availability down the line, hubby was in favor of either Whirlpool brand or Whirlpool owned Kitchenaid and against lesser known brands Electrolux and Bosch.
  3. Kitchenaid Superba KEBS107 Built-In electric convection single 30" wall oven (Sears product 29389) was ordered, but didn't come into the warehouse until 6 weeks later.
  4. This oven is heavy so needs two adults to install it under a counter (not all ovens can be installed under a counter, BTW). Be certain you have a separate circuit properly set up for it and remember the conduit box needs to fit into the hollow of the wall so be sure that can happen.
  5. The ease of opening the oven door is a big plus to someone like me w/ arthritis.  The oven door is removable. The oven seal is on the oven and not the door so that can help with cleaning the oven door itself, which has excellent visibility from standing outside of it to check on how a cake or cookies or bread is rising, etc., while leaving the oven door closed.
  6. Having the lower element hidden under the blue enamel interior is also a plus for simple cleanups (just remember no oven cleaner in these self-clean type models of ovens). To be on the safe side, I will not be using the self-clean feature as others have reported some issues of oven failure to work afterwards and I don't want to risk that......
  7. The top element comes on during pre-heat so do pre-heat and then if conventional roasting, be sure to use a foil shield around whatever you are roasting (BUT not in convection mode). This type of oven you don't put items into it cold and then turn on the oven.  To avoid overbrowning of food items you MUST preheat the oven and do so at least 25-50 degrees higher than the temp you will actually cook at, then lower the temp right after the item goes in and you close the oven door or else within 30 seconds the top heater element will come right back on..
  8. This model has Center Broil or Full Broil options. You have to order the broiler pan, broiler grid and roasting rack and pay $15 to have same shipped.
  9. Touchpad is simple to use.
  10. Temperature probe is convenient.
  11. This new oven has 5 possible full rack positions; comes with one roll out rack (telescopic type) to use on the 1st or 2nd (lower) rungs so the rack can be easily pulled out to allow heavy items to be reached with greater ease.
  12. The oven convection fan really works--be prepared for a hot blast of air! When you open the oven be sure to stand back! The fan also pushes air out from between the control panel and the top of the door so don't let small children get anywhere near the oven if you go with an undercounter installation.
  13. This model includes easy convect conversion (you enter conventional cook temp and time and it converts for metal or silicone pans, but you would have to adjust temp even lower for glass or ceramic cooking vessels).
  14. You can use (conventional) Bake, Broil or Bread Proof, or the Convect (convection) section for (Convect) Bake, (Convect) Broil or (Convect) Roast as you prefer.
  15. The clock is a 12 hr clock. Start is where to begin all oven functions except Sabbath Mode.
  16. Preheat cycle completed noted by a single chime sound that even at high is not bothersome--you need to pay attention to hear it. 3 chimes sound when a timer reaches 0 for any reason.
  17. This model should not be used with a removable oven thermometer since when the oven opens that gush of hot air out means the reading on a removable oven thermometer will be off.
  18. Be aware that Sears assigns their choice of installer--1st trip out, installer had no other adult with him (only a young teenager) so said it would cost $120 more to install on another day.....b/c unless Sears can literally have the installer pull the old oven out and put the new one in the same spot as is, it considers the install to be a custom install with add'l cost. There is still no sales tax as Sears technically is the installer and oven seller and it is a capital improvement, but obviously Sears and the contractor get more money to take existing support in cabinet and adjust it a fraction of an inch. If you object your only other option is to cancel the order and if you cancel at that point it is considered canceling a special order with 15% charge plus $70 "evaluation" fee to evaluate the oven location. So installation really costs $139.99 + $120 = $259.99 & $10 haul away old oven fee so be forewarned. "Extra installation charges" of $120 (they call it parts as in two thin strips of wood and labor) that were obviously not prepaid at the store are COD and that means either credit card approval or cash payment on the spot.
