I guess you get what you pay for and boy did I pay. I bought an ultra-cheap Homelite string trimmer back in Feb of this year and yesterday as I was trimming for the final time of the season, it started to blow out smoke/oil and smelled like burning metal. It's ragged out...already. I have six acres, but really only cut and trim three acres of it. I need something that is heavy duty, no matter the cost. Anyone have suggestions? Any pro's out there? What do you use? And no suggestions for a rechargable trimmer. Those are a joke for anyone with a yard larger than .5 acres.

A Craftsman high-wheel trimmer does an excellent heavy-duty trimming job, at my place.

It's powered by a Lawn Mower type, B & S engine, with a 21 inch diameter cut.

As a L&G salesman i would have to agree with AdamO.  The Highwheel trimmer is easy on your back (especially for 3 acres) and the string is .155 in Diameter which means you have to change it out less frequently then when using .060 string for an electric trimmer.  It is a 4 cycle engine so you dont have to worry about mixing the oil and gas.  Plus the engine has a 2 year Manufactures Defects Warranty.  Price hovers from 350 to 400.  Go to sears.com and type 77374 into the search bar and take a look for yourself!
