Do not wait long as the grass is not lazy and it will become the beast once it gets knee high

And pests take hold, and then the grass never dries. Last couple of years I've taken to listening to podcasts while I mow, and I (almost) like it.

I find mowing the lawn very relaxing. The hum of the engine, the vibration in my hands, the back-and-forth walking...it's very meditative, as it sort of drowns out external noises and forces you to focus on a single task. The fresh air doesn't hurt, either. :)

There is nothing like the smell of fresh cut grass as well as the clean country air.

I  enjoy  cutting the grass  but  as one gets older, the knees weaker, the rider comes along and spoils one. The grass smell still smells good but it is even better on a rider. I normally wear my hearing protection that I shoot in as well as my old rounded brim straw hat to keep the sun off my neck and hum as I mow. it normally takes me about 5  hours to mow. I use my mulcher blade and this helps to keep all the build up out of the grass

Can someone please help me?  I had a mulching kit put on my mower, a garden tractor with a 54" deck. Craftsman. I can't even do one pass around my lawn without this thing getting FULL of grass. I then have to take off the cover, remove the grass, and start all over again. I have to be doing something wrong, this just can't be right.  Clumps of cut grass are all over the place. This would be funny if it wasn't so frustrating.

If the grass is too high or wet, this can happen.

If it is too high, then you need to discharge the grass at a high setting so you can work the grass down to a workable mulching level where you can mulch the whole way through.

If the grass is wet and you are mulching, the grass may be caking itself to the sides and top of the underside of the deck.  for this, you might try spraying the underside of your deck with the grass non-stick spray before mowing.

But it does sound like wet or tall grass, or both, are the problem.

Besides the grass being too tall or wet, the blades have to be mulchers not baggers. Mulching is great for the lawn under proper conditions, but wet grass won't mulch, so mow late in the day.

Thanks...I think you're right, the problem is moisture. But I have a gazillion dandelions and I think the stalks are holding water which is adding to the problem. I'm going to get some weed and feed.

Your grass may be to thick or wet. I have let  my grass get away from me and I have to take the side guard off of the deck and cut the grass. This will throw the cut grass out into rows and then you can go back over and cut with the deck guard reinstalled and mulch your grass. Once you get on a regular schedule with the mulcher your grass/yard will look so much better.

Be careful with the Weed and Feed. The feed part can make your grass GROW like the bean stalk in Jack and the Bean Stalk if you get rain every couple of days for a while

I guess using a mulcher is a little tricky. I took the cover off and mowed with the regular cover on. I will go over the whole thing and recut, hopefully mulching what I cut before. My grass is really nice...I think its those dandelion stalks that are making a mess. Maybe I can find a dandelion killer without the feed part.
