Logitech Cordless Desktop EX110 Keyboard and Mouse — 

This duo is not only inexpensive, but works great, a combo that doesn't always go hand in hand.  Both the key board and the mouse are user friendly and very easy to hook up, anybody can do it.  Icons are displayed at the bottom of computer screen to check battery life.  I paid under $20 for the pair, and have had them for about 6-8 months with no problems.  A great gift for college student or teen.
