After using a manual push reel mower for 12 years I wanted to upgrade to a self propelled unit.  My lawn looked good before, but now my neighbors envy what they call "the golf course".  This mower is an excellent tool and I got mine during an end-of-season sale.  Just keep in mind that a great looking...

Most Helpful Critical Review

I purchased this mower recently and had to return it after a day, due to poor construction.  I mowed over a small pebble which threw the whole reel out of alignment and started to contact some hold down bolts to the chassis just behind the reel component. Poor engineering.  Re-alignment and re-sharpening...

McLane 20 in. Cut Path Reel Mower Reviews

I purchased the mower in April 2010.  Sears was very competitive on the price and the delivery was handled perfectly.  The assembly was very easy.  The mower worked great for 3 times, but a little triangular metal blade guard that was soldered on broke off, because it wasn't solidly put on.  Since Sears told me it would take 3 weeks to get it  back and I can't wait 3 weeks in the Summer for a $570 lawnmower to be fixed, I returned the product to the store.

When you buy items on Sears.com it is almost impossible to return them to the store when the product is only sold online.  The Sears stores...

The McLane 20 in. Cut Path Reel Mower cuts so good. It doesn't chew up and spit out the cuttings back in your lawn. You can easily adjust the mowing height and emptying out the cut grass is a cinch. Very easy to start too. You can also adjust the cutting blade to the reel as it wears out as you go. It's not for every kind of grass though. I use it on Bermuda and St. Augustine only...not recommended for Marathon or tall fescue type lawns. I haven't had to re-sharpen the reel and I've been using it for 3 years.

McLane 20" Reel Mower

Excellent mower. Unlike a rotary mower, this mower gets way closer a cut for that manicured look. My lawn is St. Augustine, and the mower does not miss a beat. Plows right through. Great price also. Runs smooth and starts up on the first pull.Description says the engine is 4 hp. In actuality it is 5.25 hp. ARR, ARR, ARR.

Looking at other reviews, I wish I would have purchased this reel mower in place of the one I actually bought.

Great mower at excellent price

I have recently built a home with zoysia grass. Also have checked around for a really good reel mower but didn't want to spend $1,000-$3,000 and hesitant to buy a used one. This one cost just little more than used one I saw and is excellent. Plenty of self-propelled power and easy start and operation. Yard looks manicured like a golf course. Could not be happier. Plus, Sears delivers to your front door...

not bad all things considered

If you have bermuda or st. Augustine grass and want a well manicured looking lawn, then a reel mower is really your only option. Most reel mowers available are either hand push mowers or insanely expensive and/or hard to find. This mower is the most common and easy to find power reel mower in the Southern California market area. It is a decent mower. Fort he most part it cuts cleanly without issue and with the motor you don't have to worry about having to push or force it. My biggest compliants is that the mower could have been been built a little better (compare to a TrueCut mower) same basic... read full review »

Wonderful Mower for the price

We really like the power reel mower for our zoysia grass. It is easy to start and runs well. The mower should come with an additional drive chain so the 1-1/2" setting can be achieved. Without it, the maximum height setting is 1-3/16". Beyond this, everything is great with the mower.

Be aware it is 4HP

I just didn't want anyone to think you would get a 5.25HP engine as the previous reviewer thought. I believe Sloppy was mislead by the engine labelling, 5.25 Briggs & Stratton: 5.25 ft-lbs TORQUE. With it being 148cc translates into a 4HP engine.
