Now, it's about 6 years old, and I guess these days that's the life expectancy of a micro-hood. Based on some research I've done, I think the magnetron went out. I don't see a Kenmore microhood on the Sears website for under $520. At that price, I think it's worth fixing, but I'd like to hear what others think. In my opinion, a $500+ microwave should last more than 6 years!!
There are Kenmore microhoods for under $200. Check out 02280032000 on sears.com as an example.
I suggest you go to Appliances > Microwaves > Over the range, and then filter them however you see fit. You can filter by brand, price, recommendation, color, and user ratings.

Thanks for that info BlewCrewGuy. For some reason that micro-hood didn't come up in my search. Unfortunately, it has a smaller capacity, is less powerful and has fewer features than the one I need to replace. I just spoke to Sears online and Sears Home service. The model I have is discontinued, and the most similar existing model is on sale for $550 (which is about what I paid 6 years ago). The magnetron has a 5 year warranty... so I'm out of luck by about 12 months. At this point I'm thinking that if a $500+ Kenmore micro-hood is only good for 6 years, another Kenmore is probably not a good idea. Again, thanks for the suggestion.

721.63682 / 721.63683 / 721.63684 / 721.63689 are all listed on the Use & Care Guide. I suppose each number refers to features such as color. I'm not sure which one mine is.
Huh...that's an LG model. LG microwaves are generally very reliable. They're the ones who make the Kenmore countertop models, as well as many of the microhoods. In fact, they're one of the biggest microwave manufacturers in the world. The odds of having two different microhoods have the magnetron fail in under 10 years are pretty low, so there's really no reason NOT to get a Kenmore, unless there's a model that has features you like better. That's up to you, of course.

I suppose that if I don't want to lose features, the best course of action is for me to go ahead with a repair. That will cost less than half the price of purchasing a new similarly feature microhood, and I'll just have to hope a quality magnetron is installed this time around. What do you think?

I saw them at Madison Square Garden for the reunion tour and Jones Beach amphitheater for the so-called "farewell" tour. I've seen every KISS lineup except this latest one... can't get used to seeing Tommy and Eric dressed as Ace and Peter!

WOW. Just stumbled on this discussion. I have the exact same problem, and the exact same model. Purchased 6 years ago and the heating is just about gone. Seems like this model does not last very long for the price. I was also looking at the Bosch as a replacement.
I have one that just quit. It was working fine and then I noticed the clock wasn't working so of course when I tried to use it, nothing works. It just died. Any ideas on what it might be and how much?

I ended up buying a Sears Service Smart Protection Agreement for the repair of my UltraWave Elite microhood. It cost $229, which sure isn't cheap... but the closest model to the broken one I have, costs $550 on sale. With this agreement, the unit was fixed, and parts and labor on all repairs for the next 12 months are covered. I've heard that these microwaves are manufactured by LG and are supposed to be quite reliable; but as I see more and more people post about their's dying, it makes me wonder.
I have a similar problem with exactly the same model. I'm planning to install a separate outlet, buy microwave that will fit the same place( I already have the trim). I don't see any differences between this "special" $550 microwave and for example the on that costco cells for $180. These oven/microwave combos are not good!

I wonder... how many of these units were sold? This problem is starting to sound statistically significant, based on the number of people that have had the same problem with this model.
Mine, different model, died yesterday. Electronics still work but there's no waves. It's over seven years old, Kenmore Microhood #02061622000. I'm going to get a new one, not repair. Just not sure what brand.
