L-Block was a traditional engine design before OHV. It refers to the L-shaped configuration of the cylinder in relation to the valves

Turns out Sears DOES carry the small valve compressing tool, that work on the L-block engines, a Customer was looking for.
Something was "put in front of it" on its hook.
