“Sponsorship of NASCAR Toyota has hurt the brand”
While NAPA stores typically have a better parts assortment than the discount auto parts chains, and friendly local operators, NAPA's failed decision to sponsor TOYOTA-branded cars in NASCAR has hurt the brand.
NAPA should sponsor American cars in auto racing. With the Detroit 3 hurting and Toyota benefitting from big Japanese government subsidies and protectionism, NAPA shouldn't be involved in handing over our industrial base to Asians or helping Toyota "buy" American auto racing.
NAPA's jobber-based model also seems to add too much "overhead" to the prices.
NAPA sells too many parts made overseas and does not offer enough American-made alternatives.
NAPA stores are often inconveniently located in comparison to O'Reilly and other competitors.
NAPA does not have a competitive assortment of high performance parts and NAPA counterpersons are often ignorant of "hot rod" applications (too tied to the computer).
NAPA's television comercials are generally terrible. Fire Michael Waltrip.
