On my 5th birthday, my mother and grandmother took me to the mall and purchased the classic Nintendo Entertainment System for me as a gift. I am now 20 years old, and I consider myself to be a videogame veteran. I love all the classics- Mario Bros, Donkey Kong, Metroid, Zelda, etc.
I grew up with Nintendo- first with the NES, then with the Super NES, the Gameboy/Gameboy Color, the N64, Gamevboy Advance, and Nintendo DS. I skipped the Gamecube in favor of the PS2 and Xbox, but when my old Xbox 360 died, I traded my games in and bought a Wii (I have an Xbox 360 elite now to replace the old 360, however).
The major appeal factor of the Wii to me was the fact that I could play all of the old games that I grew up with- NES games, SNES games, N64 games, and even games from the Atari 2400, ColecoVision,Turbografx16, and the Sega systems.
I think that the motion controls are innovative, but to be frank, they get old after a while.
I wish that Nintendo would cater more to their hardcore audience- the gamers who play games from the Mario, Metroid, Zelda, Donkey Kong, etc.- all of the original series games, but to be honest, most of the games on the Wii are marketed for kids.
I will always love Nintendo- After all, I cut my teeth on Nintendo games- but they need to up the amount of 1st party games that they put out. Games like Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, Zelda: Twilight Princess, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl can keep me entertained for months at a time- but the Wii isn't seeing an abundance of these games- it's seeing all of the Avatar games and Rayman: Raving Rabbids and all of these cheaply made kid games.
Grow up Nintendo, because your core audience has too.
