On Rebate —

I purchased a lawn mower from Sears.  A day later I saw a rebate for a protection agreement. I called Sears and was assured that YES I qualified so I sent the paperwork in. Later, I noticed that they needed more information, so I called.  I had a hard time understanding them.  They said they needed a receipt for the agreement.  (I'd sent in a copy of the actual agreement which has price, date and payment method). I called Sears back, they told me to send a copy of the protection agreement. Oops! That's exactly what the rebate center said they would NOT take, so they sent me a receipt by snail mail.  I then called the rebate center with the receipt in hand. (The store number would not input on rebate site). I was then told that since I purchased the agreement after the lawn mower, I didn't qualify.  BUT....GOOD NEWS!  I DID qualify for the 5% back since I used my Sears card.  I have never had a Sears card, I told the man.  He said "lucky you!".  I told him I didn't qualify for that rebate, and I didn't even submit that one.  He indicated I was still lucky.  I received a check for $55 in the mail.  Yeah, lucky me, $55 instead of $309!  I cancelled the Protection Agreement as I was within days of the full refund time limit, and mailed the $55 check back to Sears.  They called.  Asked some questions and closed the case since I received my $309 back from the Protection Agreement people.  I'm out a Protection Agreement.  Case closed?  Maybe I should have hung on to that $55, but I don't usually take what isn't mine!

Gee, wonder why they sent me a $55 rebate for which I did not qualify instead of the $309 one I DID qualify for? That rebate center needs a serious overhaul.   I think I'm finished with Sears.

Many on the rebate center staff in Wilmington DE are incomprehensible. You are soooo wrong. Some of the Pakistanies and Indonesians I've spoken with are more intelligible than the staff here in the U.S., Adam. Why any company is still using staff that cause friction as far as communication is beyond me.

Even worse, why are we still customers of Sears? I say we have the power to bring them down by shopping elsewhere. I send these comments/issues to other blogs so the word is getting out there. Hopefully, their sales are being impacted and they will either respond appropriately or go under. Why fight them via consumer advocacy groups or SAG's/court/arbitration when we collectively have the power to band together and be heard? Let's all take acton by taking a walk to their competitors...Lowes, HHGregg, Best Buy, etc. Who's with me?

Umm... The Sears organization is almost entirely contained within the United States. Most of them people can speak English. The rebate fulfillment center may be "overseas" - where not everyone can speak that there good English. But, they ain't Sears...

So, Sears has one story and the out-sourced rebate fulfillment company has another story. And, it's "Sears's" fault? There is another service provider involved in this story...
