I purchased this plasma in 2006 and it has been a great TV. Since then I have recommended this to a friend who loves it as well. For Christmas 2008 I purchased another as a Christmas gift for my parents. They totally love the picture!!
The one drawback on this set is the sound. It does not have good amplification and that was it's downfall in the Consumer Report.
P.S. Since I first purchased my set in 2006 the price has dropped over $1000.00!!

I got this for the family for Christmas and I couldn't be happier with it. I was considering spending more on a 1080p TV, but decided to go with this one since we mostly use it for television and don't have a 1080p source. The picture is incredible and works great with our HDTV cable service. The SD card slot was a fun way to share pictures. Overall, an excellent TV for the money.

This was a great purchase. We did our homework and looked at/reviewed several models of LCD and plasma. Don't think we could have made a better choice. We get 7 digital stations on a roof antenna very well in a remote area in the hills. Also does really well on satellite. An older tv with converter box doesn't do nearly as well. Picture, sound quality are excellent. The whole front of the house is windows with water in front and there have been no issues with glare of any kind. The service we received from Sears was excellent. Picked it up at a local store and my husband had it up and running in...

I have been researching for a TV for months and my main concern was how my Standard Definition analog Cable TV would look. I do not want digital or High Definition right now and my fear was a worse pic than my 32" Sony Tube style (Which has a very good pic).
I was led to believe that the picture on the HDTV would be "grainer" in SD than on my SD Sony.
I was wrong!!!
The picture is GREAT in analog SD. If you are worried, do not be with this set. (I am am watching hockey this evening and it looks very good.)
Also, we have it in a very well lit room (a wall of windows facing west) and except for some...

We picked up our Panasonic 42" Plasma 720p and 5.1 Panasonic Viera surround sound system a week ago. I am 55 years old and 95% blind, therefor picture contrast is most important to my viewing. We had not seen this in our store, but ratings and articles written about this television convinced me to buy it. The picture is beyond amazing. My wife has perfect vision and she is also was blown away by it. The sound of the TV was clear.. but adding the Panasonic Viera 5.1 theater sound system from Sears gave us an amazing home theater within a budget. We would and DO highly recommend it to everyone.

I have never written a review on anything ever but had to write one on this TV. The picture is incredible and HD cable signal a must have for this TV. Cant believe how clean and sharp the pictures look. I just stared and stared in a hypnotic daze the first time I watched an NFL football game on it. The sound is OK but overall one of the best purchases I have ever made. I got it for $699 with $15 off but now its on sale again for $599. A steal at this price!

I've had the TV for two weeks now. Very happy with it. Picture quality is great, as well as sound quality. HD channels blow me away, and standard definition is excellent as well. TV was on sale at Sears for $699, less 10% for using my Sears card, for a total sale price of $630. You can't buy a better TV for the price. Also glad I chose Plasma over LCD. No blur while watching sports. I would highly recommend buying this TV.

I'm not well versed in plasmas, but did research for a long time. This is DEFINITELY a great deal. I shopped around, and then came across this tv. And for someone who is "green" in flat screens, the picture when compared to others was the clearest. And the sound is crisp. I put it together myself in less than 15 minutes and could even pick it up the 4 feet in the air to prop on my bureau in my bedroom. Size-wise, I thought it would be too "big" for my bedroom size. But it's perfect. So instead of a 32 inch LCD, which was what I was gunning for, I ended up with a 42 inch plasma for a CHEAPER price!...

This TV which I have owned now for over 2 months is a great buy at around $700. The picture quality is much better than my previous TV. However, if you check the specs on this TV you will find that the display resolution is only 1024 x 768. Compared to the "Z" series Panasonics at 1920 x 1080 you are only getting about half the pixels. If you can afford a couple of hundred dollars more it is money well spent.

I've had the tv for about a month. Outstanding picture, easy to use, fantastic volume-almost too loud at times, crystal clear, and no glare in any amount of lighting. Set up was easy too.
Can't complain about this tv, the price ($700 plus tax) was too good to turn down.
I've seen LCD pictures and this plasma clearly out performs them.
If you can get your hands on one, buy it, you wont regret it.

I did my research like many others and found this TV to be as good as the Th-42PZ80U in 1080p. I watched a blue ray player on both and saw only minimal difference. As a 42" TV sitting 7-10 feet away you will barely notice a difference especially on anything other than a blue ray which utilizes the 1080 technology. For the $200 savings vs 1080p I'm very pleased.

If you are sitting on the fence about this TV, please get off and buy it. I just logged on to review this TV and see that it is $300 off which makes it the same price I paid for it on Thanksgiving/Black Friday. It is a great price for a Panasonic Plasma 42". It has a BIG, BEAUTIFUL PICTURE with great sound. The speakers are very nice even without applying the surround sound, etc. The color is so natural, true and vivid. Having three HDMI hookups (2 back, 1 front) is so easy and helpful along with the many other audio and video plugs. I have had two different cable guys tell us how much they like...

This was a highly rated set in consumer reports for good value on a bit older technology - but top performance. The picture is simply beautiful. Great value!

My husband and I decided to buy 3 new plasmas. We searched and researched for 3 months. We ended up buying 2 Of this model and the 50" also. We absolutely could not be happier with our purchase. We set up our televisions, ourselves and the instructions made it so easy. Our cable company set up our HD and we were good to go. We bought all 3 sets from Sears and I haven't seen them cheaper anywhere. The sound on these televisions are very good but an additional sound system would top them off. I know some people only consider the 1080 pixel but we just could not justify the price difference, again...
