OVERALL I AM HAPPY WITH THE PURCHASE AND THERE IS NO ARGUE THAT SEARS HAD THE BEST PRICE, BELIEVE ME I LOOKED FOR A MONTH! THE CLOSEST ANY STORE COULD MATCH WAS $829.00 AND THAT WAS STILL OVER $125 MORE.(Panasonic is the hands down best plasma brand, the Samsung of plasma)
Don't be fooled, plasma is better that LCD, unless u are willing to spend the money to get a LED LCD. That would be the only thing better than a plasma. The new plasmas have an average of 100,000 hour life. (8 hours a day for 34 year!!) And they have built in features to prevent burn in from occurring! They are about 1.3 times...
read full review »We love our Panasonic 42" plasma television. We purchased it at Christmas 2008 and have not had any problems with it at all.
We have ours mounted on a TV stand that swivels. Everyone that has seen it thinks its larger than 42" because the mount brings the TV up as if it were mounted on the wall.
Side views are perfect for all sitting in the living room.
We have large windows and have no problems seeing the tv as long as the sun is in the back of the house. We close the blinds when the sun is in the front of the house.
For those who play games my advice is DO NOT purchase plasma. The game...
read full review »This is a good TV and I am mostly satisfied. But I must say that the sales people at Sears are there to make money and not help you buy the tv you want or help you get what you need for the TV. First they convinced me to buy the panasonic instead of another brand (even though I did the research on the other brand). Then after I bought it and put it on layaway they called and said- they didn't have that TV in stock so i had to go back to the store and re-oreder it. ?! They also didn't tell me that there were no audio outputs on the TV so I would have to get a digital out cable. So I guess if you...
read full review »Not as great of a TV as I anticipated. The picture is average and much clearer on a Sharp LCD that I have. Very disappointed with the number of AV inputs. Not very flexible for multiple older AV components such as TIVO or a VCR because there are only two (2), one for an AV component and one for a video game. The other component inputs are only for HD equipment.
Overall I am very happy with my purchase, for the money I feel that the TV is an excellent value. As a product designer myself I can tell that the system is well engineered and will last. It does exactly what it's supposed to do, meet a low cost 1080p market with a quality product.
Some of that low cost does unfortunatly come through in the picture adjustment area which is limited to the basics. Colors are either too weak or too bold and it's difficult to get the black just right. So if you are an exacting kind of buyer who wants the best picture quality then you best look elsewhere.
However if...
read full review »Although I have (had) the 480hz, I think the issue still remains. We bought ours 11/2007. In 12/2008, had a house full of people over to watch the game, 15 minutes before start time, it shuts off, and 10 blinks. No t.v and an angry mob. Although it was a month past warranty, Panasonic fixed it for free. It took the only authorized service tech in our area almost 2 weeks to fix. It was the power board. Get it back and looks as beautiful as ever. Fast forward 9/2009, it's gone again. Same issue. This time they won't repair. Estimate I got, 400.00. It's not worth putting more money into. If you're...

First one was defective with a miscolored line down the middle, but they returned it easily and the next one was perfect.
Simple to use, nice size and color options. Displays standard def great which was a worry of mine.
Also my laptop pumped into it also looks amazing. A 42 inch computer monitor.
Overall, I couldn't be more pleased especially for the price.
I purchased this set back in May 2009 and throughly enjoyed this set until recently. Now the black levels have increased, so the advertised black levels are no longer met, and image retention has increased with this set. While the set was new I could turn off the lights in our room with a blank screen and you couldn't see the tv except for the red power led. Now the set glows like a cheap lcd with the lights off. The image retention has gotten worse as well. If I open the menu to change a setting on a blank screen you see the menu on the screen for a good 20 minutes after the menu has been...
read full review »Upon noticing that our tube TV was on it's last legs, I started my HD research. I preferred to get a plasma, since they have superior picture quality, especially for sports. I came across the base model in this series at ******** and started to do some online checking. I came across a tech blog that recommended bumping up to this model, and that Sears had a good price on it. I didn't think to check with Sears for TVs, and was pleasantly surprised that they had the best price on this TV. Further checking showed that Comsumer Reports rated it tops for all 42 in. flat screen HDTVs. A couple...
read full review »I have been waiting to purchase an HDTV for two years. I have not been dissapointed with the P42S1. I just love the picture on the TV and for the price the quality can't be beat. **************** even rated this TV the highest for the price range. My only gripe is that the only way to connect the TV to a receiver is through the optical audio, and my receiver doesn't have one, so I have to connect my cable box, video games etc directly to the receiver while the video goes to the TV. Other than that, I'm basically in love. Get this tv.
