Necessary, But Imperfect

I use these tire chains on a Craftsman 26 HP YS4500 lawn tractor with a 42" snow thrower attachment. Traction would be extremely difficult without them, so I do recommend them as a necessary purchase. I've taken a few stars off for a couple of reasons. The installation instructions state that Peerless is "an ISO 9001 Certified Company." Now maybe I'm mistaken, but I always believed that ISO 9001 had to do with quality. The instructions state to "Lay chain straight with the open sides of the cross chain hooks facing up." On one of my chains, the fold back hook was installed at the factory 180 degrees reverse, and so you cannot have both it and the fingertip hook facing up simulataneously. This does not prevent the chain from working, but it is a quality issue that deserves note. Also with that particular chain installed, there is one extra link on fold back hook side from the amount needed on the fingertip hook side to make everything snug. The other chain is fine. Also, hold onto your instructions. I temporarily misplaced mine and was unable to install the chains until I relocated them. In other words, installation is not intuitive, and I'm a reasonably mechanically-inclined person. When properly installed, these chains will give your tractor the traction that it needs to clear your drive of snow.
