I am confused about Craftsman HAMMER Drill/Driver. What does Hammer do, drive nails? If so how?

No., A hammer drill applies presser your drill bit to make it easy for you to drill into a hard surfice. for example concrete.

You can drill into concrete with a regular drill, equipped with a carbide-tipped masonry drill.

However, concrete contains stones in it, called aggregate, that a standard rotary drill and masonry bit can not penetrate.

The simple solution is to "pick another spot and try drilling there".

But, for some applications the hole needs to go in that one spot on the concrete.

For this, the hammer-drill will not only turn a masonry drill bit, but add some percussion (hammering) to shatter any aggregate encountered along the way to drilling the hole.

Special masonry drills have to be used, that can withstand this dual rotary and up & down movement.

So, a conventional drill is generally a first choice, followed by a Drill/Driver tool, followed by either an impact driver or hammer-drill accessory tool.

This is why the new Craftsman C3 line is so popular.

You can get the Basic set, with the batteries and charger and very economically "build-up" your set of power tools.
