ProForm XP XP 400R Recumbent Exercise Bike —

I had sat on a couple other recumbents at Sears before I arrived at the ProForm XP.  What I really liked about the ProForm was the comfort of the seat and the ease of how to move the seat forward and back.  Myself, I'm 6'1 330lbs and my wife is 4'9", so the bike I was looking for needed to be able to fit both of us and the ProForm delivers.  Actually, this bike can accommodate people with longer legs than mine.  The other day I actually had to move the seat forward a bit as my achilles started hurting because I was extended too far back and I initially didn't have the seat as far back as it could go.

I had a professional installer come over to my house to assemble the XP 400 R and an elliptical.  He installed both pieces of equipment in under 90 minutes and totally relieved the stress of trying to assemble it myself.   He only charged $140 to assemble both (found him on craigslist).

I really like this bike.  I'm almost in disbelief that I have an exercise bike that totally blows away the recumbent at the fitness center at my work (an old Schwinn) and the recumbents at the closest 24 hour Fitness near my house.  The only thing missing really is a fan, but it's not that sorely missed (the elliptical I bought has one, though).  This bike comes with several pre-installed exercises, but they're limited to 30 minutes (on a 30 minute countdown).  However, you can just start peddling for manual mode and go for as long as you want, or use the IFit cards.  I ordered a level 2 card off ****, so I'm not sure how good or necessary it will be, as it's only adding more exercises and providing a "voice" as a coach or virtual trainer to give you an extra push of encouragement if you need it.

I bought one $19.99 power adapter for my elliptical and it works just fine on the XP 400 R.   BTW, the guy that assembled the equipment said that ProForm and NordicTrack are under the same company, ICON.  I'm very pleased with this purchase.  I can't believe it's $170 cheaper than my Townie road bike that I never ride.

The one thing I don't like about this bike is the location of the heart rate monitor.  It's located on the handles on the side of the seat.  I like to hold the side handles and peddle, but after 20+ minutes, sweat is dripping down my arms and to my hands, collecting on this handle.  I noticed there are screws just under neath the monitor portion, so I imagine if I don't keep this clean, this area will rust.  There are handles to hold near the computer display, but I sit so far back that it just doesn't seem logical to hold those handles, nor is it comfortable.  However, like my NordicTrack elliptical, the heart monitor should have been placed on those handles instead of the handles near the seat.
