ProForm XP XP 690T Treadmill —

First, this unit is heavy.  Both my friend that helped me and I looked at each other with disbelief when we were unloading it.  It was a battle getting it the 12 feet from the street to the house.  We then had to take it through the house, and halfway out the back door to get it down basement steps.  The box is very long, and is taller than most standard seven foot household doorways.  Moving it was the hardest part of the adventure.  After we got it unpacked according to the instructions on outside of box, I separated all of the hardware into groups.  You do get one extra of all screws and washers, because let's face it, accidents happen.  I have read reviews about a lot of treadmills taking a long time to assemble.  It took maybe just over an hour, but we were very thorough.  I recommend tightening the screws/bolts as best you can with the included Allen wrenches, and then when completely assembled, going over all of the screws/bolts again with a ratchet and Allen bits, tightening to 1/4 turn past normal hand tight.  Also, be advised that there may be some oil along the rails and belt area, probably from belt lube.  I used a household cleaner to remove.  Be advised to check belt for alignment.  You may have to align the belt, but they tell you how to do it in the manual, and it is easy (just uses Allen wrench included).  If you cannot get help bringing it home and/or assembling it, then I suggest just paying the extra $65.00 unless you want it home the same day as I did.  Be advised, the treadmill is only iFit compatible.  The iFit module is not included, and costs an additional $129.99 at Sears.  Having looked at their website, it seems like it would be good, but I will probably wait on purchasing it for a while.  The sound from the speakers is great and clear.  I do however recommend that you either don't turn the volume all the way up on either the iPod or treadmill, because if both are at max volume, the speakers distort.  Finally, if you are going to put treadmill in basement as I wanted to, be sure that your ceilings are high enough.  I did not take this into consideration myself, so I am warning all of you.  If you are at or over six feet tall, and do not have high ceilings in basement, put elsewhere.  Both my wife and I have hit our heads on ceiling trying to run at full speed.  Enjoy your workout!

Jan. 15, 2010 Update:

My wife has used the unit about 7 times or maybe more now.  As of yesterday, the left  speaker has stopped working (didn't even have volume close to maxed out), and now there are both a problem with the drive system, and an oil leak of some type.  All I have to say is "WTF?".  I am so glad that I opted for a more expensive unit than the $499.99 model we looked at first, because we only would have gotten one week of use out of it instead of two...  Have a technician coming on Wednesday the 20th, we'll see what happens....  Until then, I am lowering my original rating to 3 stars out of 5.

Jan. 21, 2010 Update:

It appears that the speaker not working may have been due to a lose wire, they work fine now.  If you use an iPod or other Mp3 player and have its volume all the way up, tune the treadmills volume to between 12-14 so there is no distortion.  Also, there was no oil leak, and the drive system is fine.  I just had the belt adjusted too loose.  All is good again.  Thanks to the technician, I also now know how to do calibration of incline and speed in a hiddedn menu.
