Lockedbottom freezer vs side by side

We have a side by side that we are very tired of.  Seems we can never find anything and items are hard to reach.  Would like to know how people like their french door fridges or bottom freezers, and how necessary is water & ice in the door???

We have had a BF for 11 years (Amana) and love it. And since it just pooped out, we are buying another.  The drawers slide right out and you can easily reach everything. Also puts all the food (reason you usually open the fridge) right at eye level. My sister has the side by side and no one can ever find what they need right away...plus people have a tendency to open both doors when really, the R side is what you want, waste of energy to keep opening the F door. I also use a revolving spinner for lots of extra condiments...keeps things organized and easily reachable.

I've got a bottom freezer (Kenmore 65234), and love it. The freezer holds a ton of food, and it's much easier to navigate than a top freezer, where stuff falls out at you. I don't have water or even an icemaker, but French door models do have icemakers at the very least, and usually also a filtered water dispenser. And, if you want to store something big, it's easy in either compartment.

From a sales perspective, French door models are the fastest growing segment in home refrigeration.

Just a thought; If the refrigerator is still working, please consider donating it. Check with organizations in town, such as a women's domestic abuse shelter or veterans' group for someone who's getting an apartment (you can take a tax donation as long as you get a letter from the organization on letterhead listing the approx. value) or just list it under "free" on Craig's list.

IN regards to the "cracked shelves entries.." multiples! This is not good PR, why not  make whirlpool make good on the cracked shelves? No price is a good price if there is no "value".  unfortunately, this issue has made this buyer "beware".  So sorry sears :( Keep trying , I'll keep in touch..... make good on your  products....be the ONLY one who stands behind them and we the consumers will make YOU #1!!

I'm sorry, but how does the retailer make a difference in the quality of the product? That's like saying you shouldn't buy Frosted Flakes from Stop & Shop because theirs are bad. It simply doesn't stand to reason.

However, if you are having an issue with your refrigerator, contact SearsCares via private message, and they may be able to help. They've assisted many people here with their issues.

If I bought bad Frosted Flakes from my local Stop and Shop...I KNOW they would make good on it; they would replace them!  My family ALWAYS bought Sears appliances b/c it was a trusted company who made SURE the appliances they sold were top quality and they ALWAYS made good on their products.  Sorry we can't trust products/retailers nowadays.

A year ago I bought a bottomr freezer GE from Sears and I like the bottom freezer convenience.  I chose GE because I wanted to match the profile models of other appliances my builder installed.  I was limited in space and didn't want ice and water on the door (smoother appearance) but wanted ice.  Here's where the retailer and the manufactureer turned out  to be a bad combination.  It turned out that the model the sears sales rep sold me did not come with an ice maker installed.  He ordered a kit to install an icemaker.  GE came out and it was the wrong kit.. So the sales rep followed Sears policy and took the whole refrigerator back and sold me a different model.  I would have been happpy to have the correct kit installed and wish I had insisted on it. The icemaker died shortly before the warrenty expired.  If I had it to do over again I'd buy an LG (Consumer reports recommended) from another retailer.  I would actually recommend ice in the door, because its more popular and the sales reps might understand the very confusing model numbers.

The last time I bought a fridge I just went to the Sears showroom. A sales rep asked about family size, meal preferences , etc. and set me right up . the model was delivered and installed. I never had a problem with it EVER. It was a Kenmore Side by side. If you are in doubt look for Kenmore!

We have used a appliances from Sears for most of our 46 years of married life and we have had excellent service out of them.  We replaced our Kenmore refrigerator that we had used for over 25 years about four years ago with another brand. We bought it from a local store simply for our convenience and have wished several times that we had stayed with a Kenmore product.  This refrigerator which I won't name has been a lot of trouble.  We had to have the heating coils (for defrosting) replaced two or three times because of them burning out and also the ice maker has had to be worked on too.  We are thinking about donating this one and buying another Kenmore.  My wife and I are both elderly and don't need the stress of worrying about if it is going to continue to work or not because I have medications that have to be refrigerated and that is my biggest worry.  BUY KENMORE  from Sears.  They have always been great products for us and have served us good.

Sorry, but I disagree with you.  Sears have always stood by their products that I have bought from them.  I just replaced a Kenmore refrigerator that I have used for many, many years and it was a great product.  We bought another brand and now wish that we had stayed with Kenmore.  You just probably got a lemon like people do occasionally with their vehicles.  Sorry about your problem, but I believe that Sears will help you with your problem.  Don't stop at your local store if you don't get satisfaction.  Go up the ladder until you get the results you want.

Does anyone know how to speed up delivery.....I've purchased a new refridge but it won't be available for pick up until next Wednesday.  With Thanksgiving the next day this has really put us in a bind....  Thanks

I have a french door refrigerator which has a bottom freezer, and I absolutely love it! I can put twice the amount of frozen food in it as I could in my old Jenn-Air side-by-side, and I no longer have to take frozen pizza out of the box to fit it in the freezer =)

I have a Bottom Freezer, French Door with the Ice Maker and Water feature.  Its a Kenmore Elite.  Three things I dislike about this configuration.

  1. The Ice maker is in the left door.  So there are no useful shelfs in the door.  This is issue, because now I'm always looking for Ketchup/pickles/dressings that use to fit nicely in my door in my old side-by-side.  Without the icemaker in the door, I think this is not an issue.
  2. The Water/Ice dispenser is so short only half of our glasses fit inside it.  Annoying.
  3. The light at inside the fridge(granted this is related to design, not configuration) is not flush.  So my top shelf has smaller entry point than the full height of the same shelf near the back of the frigde.  Always have to tilt things to get them on that shelf.  The Water Filter is similar.

It absolutely stands to reason that Sears, the Retailer, should stand by what they put their name on.   Kenmore Elite is a Sears brand name regardless of who the manufacturer is and Sears should not put their name on and market products of poor quality if they do not want the repercussions.

I'd be happy to contact Sears Cares via private message regarding my ongoing problems with my Kenmore Elite Trio because I am getting no where with Customer Service.   What is that email?

I'm not sure if you noticed, but I was commenting specifically to someone else regarding what they had said.

This is not the first time someone has thought I was talking directly to them when I was replying to someone else. Can nobody see the grey text at the top of the text boxes that says "in response to WHOEVER's post from DATE TIME"? No offense meant, but this is getting ridiculous.
