Lockedfreezer is ice cold but fridge is warm

posted on May 24, 2009 at 10:19AM Inappropriate?

I am having a repeat problem with my Amana bottom freezer model.  The freezer is cold but the refridgertor is warm.  I have already tried cleaning bottom fan from dust with specail brush I purchased from repair person last time this happened. I paid 150.00 to have him come out and tell me to clean bottom which i had never done. Also sold me the brush, now it has been a couple months and same problem.  Any ideas, also fridge is 9 years old.

I assume you set the air balance control in the refer. section to a colder setting and didn't just adjust the freezer section by itself?  Also remember that it takes approx. 24 hours to cycle to a new set temp. so make adjustment and check a full day later. (use a themometer in refer. to see temp).  If freezer is a proper temp then the unit should be ok as the freezer cools and then transfers cold air to the refer. thru ports.  Make sure these are not blocked.

P.S.  If you have pets then once a month use that high dollar brush and clean coils on refer.

sounds like your evap fan motor not running, or dampener in refrig is not openning

I can hear the fan running it seems like something is blocked?

may actually be frozen inside the dampner.  Can try a hairdryer or actually turn up the freezer for several days to see if you get pooloing water in the refer under dampner port.  This would be an indication of freezing.

dampener must not be openning, should be able to pop the cover off and see if its open or shut

you may have a defrost problem the fridge must auto defrost several times a day, if the is frost build up on the back of freezer cover the air flow will be restricted by the build up of ice. the most common part to fail on an amana is the derost limit thermostat. remove the rear freezer cover, the defrost thermo is a small disc shapped device with 2 wire comint out the top, in most cases you can see the deevice is swelling and coming apart.

i AM HAVING SIMILAR PROBLEMS W/ MY WHIRLPOOL TOP FREEZER FRIDGE.i WAS WONDERING IF THESE FRIDGES NEED FREON  CHARGING,AND IF THE FREON LINES ARE FREEZING UP,COULD IT BE LOW ON FREON OR SHOULD i LOOK FOR A PROBLEM SOMEWHERE ELSE?

when you have a complete frost line on the evaporator, or a frost line down to the compressor the freon is OK. a defrost problem will have frost running down the line to the compressor because of excessive run time. these fridges usually have a calrod defrost heater and the most common cause for failure in the defrost cycle is the defrost termination thermostat. it is a small round device with 2 wires coming out of it. connecting directly  to the evaporator. in many cases you can see it is swelling and coming apart.

I have a Kitchen Aid about 10 years old and it is also cold in the freezer (on top) and warm in the fridge.  I cleaned everything I could, I am having water leaking inside the fridge and the freezer seems to have temperature shifts.  The back of the fridge is covered so I can not see the coils.  Any suggestions

I have the opposite problem.  Side by side has freezer cold, but not real cold.  Food stays frozen, but ice in ice dispenser is melting enough to have water run down the door and puddle up in one of the trays.

Fridge is perfectly cold.  Any suggestions?

I have had a service man out. And he cleaned the coils front and back.  Refrig is still warm and the dividing post between the Freezer is hot to the touch.  I call again and the service man said it was suppose to be hot. This was a Sears man.

This cann't be good for my electric bill.  Help

Pull the refrigerator out It can not circulate air so it is overheating. You can place a refrigator against the wall and expect it to cool .

I am having a similar problem with my Kenmore side by side refrigerator/freezer. The freezer is vey cold, and frost  is forming on the service door for the ice cube maker. The open space of the the refrigerator is not cold enough to prevent milk from spoiling long before its use-by date, but the various closed comaprtments are cold but not as cold as they were wnen the refrigerator was running normally.

I got it fixed. It was the condenser fan motor.

I am having the problem where the freezer is freezing but the frig is barely somewhat cool .  Where do I find the cold air ports? How will I know they are blocked and how do I unblock them?

I have a side by side Kenmore about 9 yrs old now and the freezer is freezing but the frig is but barely room temp.  If it is the condenser fan motor how expensive is it and can I fix it myself?

HI there, I have an GE Refrigerator Side-Side. 5 Years old as of today and the freezer side works fine and compartment stays cold. The refrigerator side does not stay cold. I have turned the coldness level all the way to 9 for maximum cold and that has not changed the coldness.\r\n
I can provide both the serial and make model if needed.
