My Kenmore just won't make ice. Sometimes it works and most of the time it won't. Any ideas? It is a side by side Model #253.25693407. Thanks!

the shut off arm is the wire that sits at the side of the ice maker it can fail to activate the swith inside when it lays against the side of the ice maker, lift the arm and slowly lower it back, listen very carefully for a clicking sound as the wire contacts the switch. if you cant hear the switch clicking try carefully bending the armout so it must click the switch before resting against the ice maker mould.

another item to check is the freezer compartment temp.  if it is not cold enough, it will not function.

my ice maker model 58702 will not make ice.  Unpluged the product and plugged it back in. the ice maker filled with water and cycled once.  only worked once! This system has on/off sw and electronic eye!

if the red  eye light is on and blinks when you close the door switch at the top of the freezer compartment, the sensor is ok. these unit have had problems, you can order a motor kit, with new motor module, and new guide that runs along the leading edge on the ice maker  included in the kit. that solves most problems, the water valve should be OK since it filled.

I have seen a ice maker that will only work when first cycled but wont fill when cycling once ice has frose in the mold, when the ice maker cycles a mold heater is activated to loosen the ice for extraction from the mold. enough amps are being drawn be the heater that the water valve solenoid will not have enough current to activate the plunger and move the needle valve in the fill valve.. letting the water flow. changing the valve didn't fix the problem, I had to put a higher wattage coil on the valve to get the ice maker to work.

My kenmore has similar problems. It started when I changed the external water filter. I replaced the water switch and now the entire ice maker. No water is going into the ice maker and  water out the door operates sometimes.

Whne i mounted the ice maker, I pluged it in first and I saw water come into the freeser and then I unplugged it and mounted the new ice maker but still no ice and I do not hear water going into it.

see if the water line has froze from the back of the fridge going to the ice maker, remove the hose from the fill valve and see if you can blow thru it if not there is probably ice restricting the water from reaching the ice maker

shut off the ice maker, fill it manually with a small amount of water. this assumes that it is not mid cycle. the fingers should be in either 10 o'clock or 2 o'clock position in relation to the square motor housing. depending ot the type of ice maker, if it is in the position of the fingers being into the mold the motor has failed mid cycle and the easyist repair is to replace the whole unit. in about 2 hours the ice should be froze completely and ready to cycle when turned on. on some fridges the door switch must be depressed to allow power to the ice maker, watch it to see if it operates. toward the end of the cycle when the fingers reach the position they were in at the start you should hear a humming noise 5-6 seconds as the water valve is energized. if the water valve is bad changing the ice maker will not solve your problem. the valve is in the rear bottom of the fridge and is very hard to hear listen very carefully. if you can hear it hum but no water runs into the ice maker it is very common for the ice maker fill tube to freeze from the back of the fridge going into the freezer . if that tube  continues to freeze after cleaning it you will have a problem with the fill valve weeping and not shutting off completely, water weeps into the fill tube and freezes and blocks water from reaching the ice maker.

I have the kenmore 253.57382601 side by side.  Just today, the ice maker quit.  No water is being filled in the tray, and the side arm that activates the switch is making contact.  You can hear the click.  The water comes out of the door just fine and doesn't appear to be freezing anywhere.  I'm trying to find out if I probably have a bad ice maker switch or what.  Any help is appreciated.  I don't know how to trouble-shoot these things.

I replaced the solenoid on my Kenmore because I had taken apart the icemaker and voltage looked right on everything else. Prior to that I would hear it try to fill and it would only put a little water in. With the new solenoid I thought it was fixed. It filled the first time and ice came out fine. It may have worked another time, but since then it has stopped filling again. Temperature seems fine, but I am testing the temp now. (I had already done the turkey baster thing and water came out the other end of the tube, so it didn't seem to be a water line freezing issue).

Does anyone know how the spring attaches to the control arm? When I took my icemaker apart the spring came flying off and I am nots sure I have it attached correctly. Maybe the arm coming down isn't contacting to make it cycle. I am not seeming to be able to make it cycle now. After I had taken it apart it seemed to cycle but the fill would be short and only put a little water in. That is why I replaced the solenoid, and the first 1 or 2 times it worked great with large size ice.

I have the same problem with the refrigerator that we bought- model # 58704. We bought it just 3 weeks ago. It makes maybe1-2 cups of ice in a 24 hour period. We had the Sears repairman come out and all he did was lower the temp of the freezer to -3 degrees and said that should help it. I am really upset because we spent close to 2000 dollars on this refrigerator. Is there anything else that the repairman can do or should we exchange the refrigerator and will there be a restocking fee for that?

turn the ice maker on allow it to cycle once and then turn it back off wait around 2 hours for the water to freeze then turn it on and watch the cycle to be sure it functions like it is supposed to. If everything looks OK let it go but keep a close eye on for the next couple days.

I have Kenmore Refrigrator Model 106 59767990 and the Ice maker is not making Ice, I noticed that Water is not coming to Ice Maker because I filled the water in the Ice maker and it made the ice and drop in the Ice Box. However the Cold water is coming through the Cold water side.

Hello Terryf,

Do you know what part needs to be replaced if the water line (tube) freezes again after cleaning  (defrosting) the line from ice!

Thanks,

Jeff
