Great portable AC unit!

We have had this for 3 years and it is fantastic!  I don't know what the other reviewers are talking about.  We have 3 in our house and this one does a great job.  It never overheats or does anything other than what is supposed to.  It is super easy to hook up when it gets hot, and not that expensive...

Piece of junk

Unit worked one season.  After that, it doesn't cool.  The fan just runs, even in cool mode and set to the lowest temperature.  You can hear the compressor kick on and cool air blows out for about one minute, then it just kicks back down to fan mode.  It doesn't even come close to cooling my tiny...

Royal Sovereign 12000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner Reviews

Displaying reviews 1 - 13 of 19 in total

We bought our unit 2 years ago and it worked fine.  The unit needs to be drained of water fairly constantly or it develops a nasty smell.  The drain port is so low to the ground that the only thing that you can get under the drain is a relatively flat 1" high saute pan!

After only 2 seasons of use, we turned our unit on last week and it rattled, bounded around and made a horrible grinding sound.  We found chunks of black plastic in the exhaust ductwork.  The thing ate its own guts and spewed them out the back.  Apparently there are 2 fans in the unit - one that blows the air into the room,...

Buy a window unit!!!

My husband thought it would be convenient to have an a/c unit that could be wheeled into other rooms with ease, so he bought two of these Royal Sovereign units. I liked the fact that you could easily move the unit away from the window on a nice day and let fresh air in unlike a window unit which is pretty much in the window for the season. We have not been happy with the performance of this unit. The air does not get very cold like a window unit does. If we set the unit for 65 degrees, it would never get there, it seemed to stay in the high 70's. And we kept it running all night and during the...

This thing cooled a room, weakly for 3 months, running constantly got a well insulated room down to the mid 70's running full time when outside was mid 80's, 3 months after I bought it we came home it was off.  We turned it on and it was shaking and making a horrible sound.  Turned it off and looked in the exhaust hose, it was throwing pieces of the blower blades out, I have a pile of plastic shards and no AC now, I have to take it to sears to see if they can repair it...very hopeful they can not and can offer me a replacement window unit.  A good idea being portable if it worked and was...

This royal air-conditioner works like magic. It is very quiet, but works with amazing power. It cools my three floor house in just a few hours and it's the only air conditioner in the household. It has a lot of power, but doesn't shoot the electric bill through the roof. Great air conditioner, reliable, and reasonable price.

On day one the oscillator quit working.  After 5 weeks the blower fan busted apart into pieces. Took it in for repair and the repair guy said he replaces these cheap fan blower all the time. Cheap plastic made in China.

on day 1, missing window venting parts. 1 1/2 yrs later, still no parts. the company wont respond by email or phone or in writing. product is very noisy. doesnt cool what it says it will. Live in VT so not a year round a/c unit which is why I thought portable was the way to go. 3 weeks ago a horrible smell of burned wire. hubby who is an electrician saw that the sweeping motor at the top was fried. he disconnected it. Then the other day the a/c motor seized up. tripped our breaker. house still smell 2 days later of burned wire. worst piece of garbage I actually paid money for. now I have to actually...

This a/c ran continuously and was only able to lower the temp 4 degrees in a room much smaller than recommended for its size.  It was also loud.  We returned it and bought a cheaper model window unit, rated for less BTU's than this current model, that is able to make the room cold!

I would not recommend this model.

waste of money!!

So I purchased this a/c unit too cool off my small-open-ranch style home.  The area I had originally wanted it to cool was about a 30x30 room but did have cathedral ceilings.  I did not do the job!  Ok, so I thought maybe I was asking too much with a larger sized room, so I moved it into my 11x15 bedroom for what was the hottest day of the year so far and I turned it on at 8:30p and let it run on HI with my cieling fan going...at 7:00a my room was still 81degrees !!!  A TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY AND DISAPPOINTMENT TO SAY THE LEAST!  With a price off $500plus I returned this usless a/c unit!!

In...

Unit does need emptying of water

The description of this unit is misleading. It says 'never empty a bucket again' That is not true. There is a plug on the unit and it says in high humidity it needs to be emptied. There is a water tray inside. Since I bought this unit 2 days ago I have emptied it about 3 times. Some water has been leaking on the floor even when the unit isn't full of water. So don't be mislead. For a unit that costs over $500.00 I feel you shouldn't have to empty anything. I have a cheaper unit by Haier and I never have had to empty it. Also the single out take hose gets very hot. Not sure why. Somewhat disappointed... read full review »

Nice machine

Our windows are too small for most window units and we had read all the discouraging reviews others had put in but we have found this portable air conditioner to be just what we needed and does the job very well. We are very satisfied with it.

Water leaks on the floor!!!

I purchased this, and had to empty the water 3 times in one weekend! Also the water consistently leaked on my hardwood floor, which you don't know until it's too late!!

Not the best investment

I purchased this ac. It worked fine the first day, then stopped blowing cold air. I exchanged it for another one and had the same problem. Sears gave me a big hassle trying to return it. I purchased a different model and have had great success since.
