ive been using this for probably around 8-12 months and now everytime i put it on it has a distinct smell that comes with it, any ideas?

If you aren't doing so, you should be adding a bacteria-static to the water. Clean the machine, put in a new wick and use a bacteria water treatment additive.

Firsttractor, this is an air conditioner, not a humidifier. There is no wick, and the moisture is vented out with the heat.

I'd recommend taking the A/C outside and cleaning the fins and the air filter. Let it dry thoroughly, then put things back together and give it a try.

You might also try draining and cleaning the bottom drain pan, with the plug removed, while the unit is "outside".

A lot of moisture can build up there, and possibly give something "smelly" a chance to get a foot-hold.
