Sansui - 27 in. (Diagonal) Class CRT SDTV with ATSC/QAM Digital Tuner —
I purchased this for my senior parents when their old 27" console TV failed. They wanted a traditional replacement. I was reluctant to buy this when I could see the obvious difference in picture definition when it was sitting next to the high definition LCDS at the store. I realized that it actually has a good picture when I got it home and hooked it up. I could see a definite improved picture quality over all the other older tube type TVs in the family. The digital tuner is excellent at pulling in the broadcast channels that are near the end of their range using a rooftop antenna. It is doing much better than the convertor box did with their old TV which would fade to frozen pixals quite frequently. This TV tuner maintains strong constant video when its working with an antenna. The only con I see is that this model does not have the automatic brightness and color control that previous name brand tube TVs had before they all started going to the new LCD design. Darkness level is not ideal on certain shows without manually adjusting it by toggling through the menu. For the price I can't complain or give it less than five stars though. The menu has plenty of adjustments available to tweak all the normal things on a TV like brightness and contrast. The remote has a shortcut button that instantly adjusts the aspect ratio so you don't have to toggle through a bunch of menu options to adjust that. This TV is surprisingly heavy but I am old fashioned and believe heavy electronics are more solidly built than their lightweight competitors. Anyone that doesn't want to go LCD along with the huge cost should buy this. Its an excellent value, especially if you are using broadcast TV signals and aren't constantly watching modern HD movies. I am now starting to think I might buy one of these instead of a LCD to replace my old analog Panasonic CRT TV and take the money saved to buy a wide screen HD monitor for my media computer.
