I was recently diagnosed with diabetes and needed to loose weight and begin an exercise program, but also have arthritic knees. So far this summer, I've been doing well with a daily walking program; however, I knew I'd need an indoor option for inclement weather. At first, I was leaning towards an eliptical, but then realized a recumbent bike may be a better choice, as my husband, who suffers from lower back problems, might use it also. When I began researching recumbent bikes, I came across this one. I was attracted by the Schwinn name and also the more affordable price, but the main reason I chose this bike was the number of favorable reviews. I have to say they were quite accurate. The instructions for assembly, my husband tells me, were some of the best he's seen and it did take him apprx 2 hrs with no additional help (he also said the tools that came with the parts were fine and not worth walking to the garage to fetch his own). The bike is very sturdy (years ago I belonged to a gym and I would say this bike is comparable, even better in many ways to what I used there). The padding on the seat is wonderful, ease of seat movement is very smooth, and the bike IS QUIET, as others have reported. If I absolutely had to give a Con, it would be that this bike is not for short people - that is less than 5' 1" and it would be nice if the Overview stated that fact. I am 5' 1 1/2" tall and am just tall enough to be able to reach the peddles at the points described in the instructions. Any shorter and I would not be able to reach them... as it is, I sometimes feel I'm stretching, so I'm going to try placing a pillow at my back because the backrest is not adjustable. If I had gotten the bike setup and then not been able to reach the peddles, when a simple statement in the Overview could have prevented such an inconvenience, I'd have been quite understandably steamed. So if you are 5' 1' or less, do not buy this bike unless you are able to try one out at a store or a friend's home. Otherwise, it's a great value. The onboard computer feedback is nice too and the programs switch to more resistance smoothly - it is a good ride and great investment in your health!
