Sears Craftsman 5.50 Torque Rating 22 in. Deck 2-n-1 Mulch-Side Discharge Push Lawn Mower — 

I took out a warranty on the Sears Craftsman 5.50 Torque Rating 22 in. Deck 2-n-1 Mulch-Side Discharge Push Lawn Mower because I knew it would be doing a lot of work and it did for some time. One day, it did not start and I could not pull the starter cord to its full length. I took it it to my dealer who told me that it would be repaired in a week. In the interim, I got a call that the flywheel was broken and I would need to pay $100 - in addition to warranty service already paid for - for the repair and that it would take longer. Confused, I asked around and did some research on my own. The flywheel mechanism is plastic and has a tendency to wear and snap. The mower does the job, but go easy.

Hello, thanks very much for your reply.

I got a call from the shop stating that the broken element was not covered by any warranty and that it would cost around $100 to repair. I was not happy and really surprised, so I ended up getting the mower fixed out of haste. In retrospect, probably should have taken the $100 put it toward another item.

I am the Product Manager for the Craftsman brand. How old is the mower that you have? Did the dealer indicate why the repair would not be covered under the warranty that you purchased? Did you end up getting the mower fixed or did you elect to purchase another mower?
