“They no longer do what they promise.”
We have a Kenmore brand refrigerator purchased 21 years ago from Sears. At the time of the purchase, it was one of the better refrigerators in the Kenmore line, with frost-free freezer ice-maker, and decorative front panel purchased at extra cost. We were willing to pay more to get the style and size of refrigerator we wanted with the features we thought important to have.
We added this refrigerator to our Blanket Warranty we have had for years with Sears, as we have always felt it was a good idea to have all future repairs taken care of without concern about the cost. The warranty we have is the most expensive one, but we have maintained it for all these years in order to be protected from expensive repairs and to have the product replaced without worry if needed. Once again, we thought the extra cost was worth it.
Now we have had a refrigerator repairman out several times (more than the 4 that the warranty stipulates!) and it was finally declared un-repairable. We were told we would be contacted with information regarding the provisions for replacing it. I was surprised and angry to discover that the refrigerator we were being offered as a replacement was one of the cheapest models available from Sears. It is certainly not comparable to the model's value when first purchased, and that is what we were led to expect. It is the way this warranty worked at the time we had our projection Television replaced when it was no longer able to be repaired.
I understand that business conditions are tight, but this is no excuse to cheat a customer of so many years who has paid top price for a warranty that is no longer of the value it used to be. If we had known this was not going to be the case, we would have dropped this blanket warranty before this, or at least stepped it down to a less expensive warranty program.
I am disappointed in Sears, and I am going to reconsider keeping our expensive (and no longer worthwhile!) Blanket warranty, as well as my long-standing recommendations to others of the value of acquiring your warranties.
