Sears Protection Agreements —

I purchased a cordless drill a number of years ago.... and even purchased a protection agreement with it.  I thought the plan was a life time plan.  The plan paperwork does not indicate any protection plan term... It only indicates that the document must be saved and presented if there is an issue.

When I went to take the unit back because it was not working, I was told that the protection agreement was only good for two years.  Sears would not honor the agreement because I had purchased the unit more than two years prior.

As a rational consumer I wouldn't bother purchasing a protection plan if it only lasted for two years... ??? I purchased this protection plan.  And things change ... Sears changes....  the paperwork that I was given does not indicate how long the protection plan was for...

The sales person indicated that (s)he would sell me a new unit.... and they would be happy to sell me another two year protection plan.... I left the store with my broken drill.

The new Sears.... ????

well a protection plan on a drill or power equipment of its type gives a one time replacement withinn 2 years maybe you should have READ the pamphlet before complaining i buy them and they honor them

Small electronics (mixers, Telephones, Clock Radios, Video Games) come with a 2 years protection Plus plan, Larger Electronics (TV, Large appliances, Treadmills) and such offer 3-5 Home or shop depending on the size.

My comment is that the policy for lifetime does not cover motorized parts if you had read the pamphlet you got witht eh protection plan you would not look like such an Idiot!

Honestly, what were you thinking? You thought for a few extra dollars you were going to get a LIFETIME replacement drill? Take your broken drill up with the manufacturer and move on or buy another one. Retail stores would be out of business if they kept replacing products forever, they SELL the protection plans because chances are that it will not break down in the first two years, or you will lose the receipt. People like you are why customer service reps are angry and bitter.

"As a rational consumer I wouldn't bother purchasing a protection plan if it only lasted for two years... ???"

A rational customer would.. read the receipt after buying anything... and it would be pretty obvious that it was for 2 years and the associate would have gladly clarified the duration.

Sears hasn't changed either... for the past decade or two... plans always came in options that are less than 5 years.

I'm sry you got stuck with one of the few associates who didn't even mention the protection agreement time length.

Why purchase a 2 year agreement? My camera has just fell out of the manufacturers 1 year limited warranty, and knowing that repairs cost an arm and a leg, the $20 investment towards a protection agreement was totally worth while.
