LockedWinter Commuting Shoes

posted on October 09, 2009 at 12:04PM Inappropriate?
I am looking for a better way to commute in the winter - with all the snow and ice in Chicago, I am always wearing my "snow boots" to work. I also do not want to ruin my good shoes with salt residue. However, it is difficult to carry the large dress boots in my bag all the way during my commute. Any reccomedations on a stylish way to bring your boots to work?

I know this isn't the best, but someone in my office has a whole slew of shoes under her desk!  She takes off her walking shoes, or boots, and has many to choose from.

Maybe just keeping one or two pairs in a locked drawer would work, too!

Living in FL we have more rain to deal with than snow lol. I used to carry my shoes in my backpack when we had business casual dress code. I also used to keep a pair under my desk as well. Now that we wear jeans, sneakers, and regular shirts I don't have to worry about lugging my shoes around :)

You should find yourself a cute (but big) tote to carry your tall boots in.  Plus, you could also weather proof your work shoes 'just in case'.  If you do happen to get salt on them, I would wipe them off right away otherwise it leaves a stain.

Either silicone or mink oil waterproofing is required.

I have seen others bring them in a big tote or have "work" shoes under their desks or in a drawer.

Please remember when using a "waterproofer" you are putting a barrier (usually silicone) over your leather.  You WILL loose the qualities of having a leather shoe.  You would be better off buying a synthetic upper.
