Read the box/ packaging.

Or, look for the AMERICAN flag!

Oh, oh, oh... say can you see... is it made in this country?

Would you rather buy an American-made junk appliance or a high-quality foreign-made appliance?

Junk?

It's American.

Not made in China...

I would prefer made in Utah, by old-world Mormon Craftsmen, with a realistic "glowing" fire in the electric hearth, with all fractional fasteners.

None of that Metrical stuff!

If someone says country of origin is the most important factor in choosing a product, I'm curious if quality enters the equation. It's a perfectly reasonable question.

Those ain't Mormons...they're Amish. Didn't you see their suspenders and beards, rather than white button-up short-sleeve shirts with black neckties? :)

Ope!

You're right...

My mistake.

The Amish are better craftsmen, anyways.

I buy "Made in America" whenever I can.  And yes I do take quality into account.  I like to keep my neighbor employed and competitive as I hope he/she might like to keep me employed and competitive.  And I do not care if the "makers" were born in America or not, or speak English or not.

Is there a listing anywhere of the manufacturers of the Kenmore products by number? E.g., 665 is a whirlpool made appliance.  Is there a link to all of them? thanks.

The Applica toaster is from the Black & Decker Spacemaker line.  At www.BlackandDeckerAppliances you'll find a link to the Use/Installation Manual: the back cover indicates it's made in the People's Republic of China.

MY question is how big is it?!  Photos show it bigger than the "B&D" labeled over w/ mechanical knobs, but photos can't be trusted.  Nothing I've found gives dimensions for either oven. Feel that electronic controls may be safer and more dependable, but don't want to sacrifice all the "spacesavings" aspects!!

Big?

I thought everything had to be all compactical and tiny now, like the iPod thingies...

posted on January 02, 2010 at 04:37PM

You didn't read very closely!  My concern was that it may well be TOO BIG. In fact, after another 2 hrs searching the web, I found (on 2 separate store sites) dimensions for the  mechanical-knobbed version = 18L x 10w x 11h, and the electronic-control version = 19.5L x 12.8w x 15.5h.

By the time you put 15.5 inches hanging under a cabinet, you have barely 4 inches between the toaster and countertop... so why bother?  Guess I'll "go" mechanical after all.

Say, Adam... why'n'hell are you on this blog site nearly 7000 times?  Get a life, guy!

if its made in china its junk. period.  I really did good this weekend. i bought 800 dollors in tools. the only one i could find were kolbolt. they had the usa flag on them . since i was there i spent another 500 hundred on a new tool box. that was made in china. i was kinda mad . i use to be loyal to craftsman but when they put my peaple out of work that was the last straw.  i still buy craftsman but not everything anymore. they must not need my buss. my friends are all doing the same thing.

Who are "your people?" When did "Craftsman" put "your people" out of work? Which "Craftsman" factory closed down? What do you mean "the only one i could find were kolbolt?" I assume you mean "Kobalt," which is a Lowe's house brand.

Are you aware that about 98% of Craftsman hand tools are made in America, and have a "Made in USA" logo on the front of their packages? Are you aware that Craftsman offers far more tool options than Kobalt (Lowe's) and Husky (Home Depot) combined? Did you know that some of the best tool manufacturers make Craftsman tools right here in America? Did you know that Craftsman hand tools are guaranteed forever?

Which tools in particular did you think were not made in America under the Craftsman brand that compelled you to purchase Kobalt tools, and did you ever go to Sears to confirm these assumptions?

Frankly, I'm very confused by your post. It simply doesn't make sense when compared to the facts. Perhaps if you could share what you think is and isn't made in America?

You live in Illinois, home of Sears Holdings, and you don't know that almost all Craftsman hand tools are made in America? This is a sad state of affairs. If you haven't seen the Made in USA logo in a long time, you haven't been in Sears in a long time.

Do yourself a favor: go to Sears, hit the tool department, and look at the screwdriver packages. Then, look at the wrenches. Then, look at the sockets and ratchets. Then, look at the mechanics tool sets. Then, look at the pliers. Then, take a walk over to lawn and garden and look at the rakes, shovels, hoes, and garden hoses. You'll see two things in common: "Craftsman," and "Made in USA."

If you don't believe it, take it up with the Federal Trade Commission.

Or, see what wikipedia says: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Craftsman_%28tools%29

Or, http://www.stillmadeinusa.com/tools.html#handtools

Or, call Danaher Tool Group and Western Forge and Irwin and ask them if Craftsman tools are made in America.

But, really, if you're determined to believe that Craftsman hand tools are made in China, despite that being categorically untrue, that's your prerogative. You're completely incorrect, but you're welcome to be as completely incorrect as you can stand to be.

so my cordless craftsman screwdriver is made in america and reciprocating saw is made here. and the box that my last set of craftsman sockets came in is made here. and when closed the sockets dont stay in. kobolts do. how about the tool chests. thing is bud i would spend thousands on more tools from a company that made everything here.

Everyone who cares to try to buy American Made, needs to be aware that much of the information out there is misleading and sometimes fraudulent.

I did not say power tools, nor did I say tool chests. I said hand tools. Right now, the only power tools made in America are Milwaukee, and Sears carries them. Screwdrivers, wrenches, sockets, pliers, hammers...these are hand tools. If it has batteries or a cord, it is a power tool, not a hand tool, because the force comes from an external power source rather than from your hand. This distinction shouldn't be so confusing, unless it's only being blurred to obfuscate, which it's sometimes hard to tell when people are worked up.

Made in USA Requirements
Now you have something to cry about, Made in the USA is not 100% made in the USA
Also See http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/business/adv/bus03.shtm
Definition
1. According to the FTC, products claiming to have been "Made in USA" must have been "all or virtually all" made in the United States. This means all significant parts, processing and labor to produce the item must have originated in America.
Enforcement
2. The FTC doesn't pre-approve "Made in USA" claims. Any company can make the claim without permission as long as it is truthful.
Clarification
3. In the enforcement policy, the term "United States" can refer to any of the 50 states, the District of Columbia and any of the U.S. territories or possessions. "All or virtually all" means the product should contain no, or "negligible," foreign content.
Other Claims
4. Other claims describe the extent to which U.S. goods and labor were used to make the product, such as "75 Percent U.S. Content." "Assembled in USA" may be used to describe a good produced in the United States but made of foreign imports.
Violations
5. Consumers who suspect that a company is making an untruthful claim can contact the FTC's Division of Enforcement and Bureau of Consumer Protection at (202) 326-2996 or send them an email. A state Attorney General or Better Business Bureau can also handle a complaint.

I buy for multiple use and durability, I buy to keep not use break and throw away.
I have bought many items 10 20 30 years ago and still use them.
American or off shore, if it will do all that I ask of it and last I got my money's worth.
Now a day's most are built to throw away so you have to replace it to keep the doors open,
That is crybaby thinking, and before you ***** cry or moan you feel the same, buy it use it and keep it, you will brag on it to others and they will buy the same thing, on on on and the doors stay open.
Have fun, I'm done.

I had to flip the packaging over to find the Made in the U.S. of A. flag.

But, it was there.

I guess the flag on the front of the packaging would have been "too much".

Petty though...

The front is a two spot color graphic, while the back is simply black and white.

But, the tools are still made HERE.

I just happened to check the link for this discussion and was totally shocked. I've worked in retail for over 12 years and was taught that the customer was always right. I learned in the first week that some of them are total jerks and are just looking for 'something for nothing'. Half of the complainers have no idea what their talking about. But can we tell them?  NO!. We have to say 'yes sir', 'yes maam' and let them outright steal from us. My point is....I salute Bluecrewguy and his comments to loveclam. I'm just waiting for my 'last day' before retirement so I can tell some of these people where the can get there refund for an item they used satisfactorily then didn't need it anymore.  "something for nothing"
