I'm quite happy with my purchase of the Sony DVDirect. it's very simple to hook up and I don't have to tie up my tv. I've had it almost two months now and I have it running constantly. I'm about half way thru my VHS collection. I would definitely recommend this product for anyone who wants to save their memories. I did find that that those old tapes are deteriorating, so I'm glad I found this.

Its great - once you get it hooked -up it can turn your old VHS tapes into DVDs-in no time, you don't have to use your tv to dub and get rid of commercials - the small monitor on this unit lets you do that and still watch tv or just turn on your VCR and let the unit run. It can record off, your VCR or DVR, with ease -set the tape speed of your tape, on the menu of this unit and it will record a DVD in that tape speed from SP to SLP or EP. I love it and my friends want to borrow it, this portable unit, can hook-up to a VCR or DVR, anywhere. For the price its worth $179.99 and add the extented warrenty,... review »

After I read the instructions and played with it learning how to do everything I have had very good results with this. I hook my camera up to the recorder and record direct on the DVD instead of having to down load it on the computer then recording it on the DVD. It sure cuts out a lot of steps doing it this way. I record a lot of races we participate in and my group likes to look at the recordings later to see what corrections they need to make before the next race. Thanks for making it easy for me to go from my camera directly to the DVD.

Although I haven't used all the features yet.. this little machine does what I want and is very easy to use. Definitely better than using the TV or even the PC to copy stuff to DVD's.

I purchased this on a whim to transfer our sons vidoetaped school programs, church programs, etc. to DVD after a friend telling us about his. Sat in the box for awhile until I had time to try it out, a friend ask for a copy of something, and it worked great. The ease of use is amazing. I have a DVD Recorder/VCR that has a long list of rules.....but this is pretty easy right out of the box. The LCD screen asks you questions.....media type, what you want to do, etc. and BAM...you are recording. Definitely a great choice! A little pricey, but works well and I think will be worth the $179.99 I paid.... review »

I purchased this product to transfer my old VHS videos to DVD. I already have a DVD-R player/recorder of another brand that is capable of transferring my movies; however, the process is so complicated I was never able to use it. This Sony, however, is incredibly easy to use and versatile. Due to its ease of use and the ability to transfer to DVD from so many sources, I give this two thumbs up. Had I brought my VHS tapes in to have transferred by a third party, I would have paid way more than the cost of this Sony.
