I bought a 55 inch LCD Samsung 650 series about three months ago and it has been awesome.   We had bout a 42 inch LG plasma at the same time for our bed room and within a month it had problems and I returned it and bought another Samsung.  It is much better!

The thing with online reviews is generally you only get the bad stories, the people who have fantastic experiences, which happens more often than the bad ones, don't report anything because this is to be expected.

I've been selling electronics at Sears for a bit over 3 years, and Samsung is easily our top sold brand, and its the brand we get the least amount of problems with.

I'm without a doubt going to purchase the Samsung Series 8 Slim 50" Plasma for my bedroom. That joint is smackin'! Gonna pick it up @ Sears; 0% interest / 0 payments for 12 months or take an additional 10% off the sale price. A no brainer... Still enjoying my Hitachi 61" Ultravision Digital Big Screen TV which I purchased on the 0/% interest / 0 payments for 12 months plan at Sears back in 2003. I paid my bill off in full just before the 12 month term ended. The picture still looks great. Well worth the investment.

I purchased a Samsung Plasma. After 2 days I returned it to the store. It hummed so loud that it was impossible to ignore, especially when the TV was off!!! The salesman told me this was a common problem with the Samsung Plasma TVs..I ended up buying a Vizio LCD from Costco.... after 1 year I am still happy with my Vizio!!!

One more thing to remember.....If you are putting your TV in a room with alot of windows.. The glass front of the plasma TV had so much glare I could barely see the picture...the LCD has a different screen...so, there is no glare what-so-ever!!

I am trying to decide type, size, brand for my bedroom and have 2 large windows, but generally only watch TV in my bedroom in the evening. Any helpful hints.?  And I think I would like a combo.  I have a 42" Panasonic HD Viera plasma in my livingroom and I love it, sound is great and picture is too.

I would like to stay with Panasonic plasma, but after reading the comments I am concerned about the lighting in my bedroom.  I live in an apartment and the blinds would probably take the glare off.

I'm only aware of one person here who's been down on Samsung. The majority opinion among salespeople and customers (and most electronics nerds) is that Samsung is a leading LCD television on the market for picture quality.

Most LCD televisions have a matte-finish plastic screen, which diffuses light that shines on the screen. Plasma televisions have glass screens that act like mirrors for light that shines on the screen. For bright rooms, LCD is a better choice.

Some LCD televisions, like Samsung's 650 series, have glossy plastic screens, to improve color rendering and contrast. However, because LCD televisions are significantly brighter than plasmas, even these glossy screens would be favorable to the dimmer plasma screen in a sunny room.

If you have good control over the brightness of the room and glare wouldn't be an issue, plasma is an easy way to get a big screen for a good price. If not, or if you'd like a lighter, more energy-efficient television, LCD would be a better choice.

Take a look in the stores.  Many models of the panasonic and samsung plasma have anti-reflection coating on the glass.  They look less reflective to the overhead lights in the store than the lcd versions.
