LockedMitsubishi Television

posted on October 18, 2009 at 11:40AM Inappropriate?

So I have been looking into a television for my father and he currently has a Mitsubishi television and has been very satisfied with it. Therefore I was wondering why the Mitsubishi televisions are less expensive than other. Example there is a 73 inch for 1499.99 why is that? Just a question I really need answers thanks!

Not older technology, quite up to date, it is a DLP projection. Drawback, can not be wall mounted, however it will last a lot longer than plasma or led/lcd sets with only an inexpensive bulb to be replaced every 3 to 4 years. And picture quality is oustanding. Also the Mitsubishi sets are 3D ready (will need shutter glasses and 2K-4K adapter plus 3D BluRay player).

I have 2 120Hz DLP sets and they are outstanding (plus 2 smaller LED sets for bedrooms) and I just love my BIG DLP's.

My last TV was a DLP, and I had it for several years. Just upgraded last year to a 50" plasma.

We have a mitsubishi 56" DLP and the lamp keeps going out and it is over 300.00 to get it fixed.  Got it back the first time and it was less than a month and it has started again with turning off and the green light on the front of the TV flashes for a couple of minutes before you can turn it back on.

Not happy with this TV - never had this happen with any others before.

Stay away from DLP TVs. There's a reason most of your main stores don't carry them any more. I have had a Samsung 56" DLP for about three years. The lamp went out so many times my warranty company paid me back what I spent on the TV because they had already put more $ into the TV than it was worth. And, you guessed it, just the other day the lamp started down its path of doom once again.

Stay away!

Newer DLPs have less bulb issues, and the replacemnt bulbs are $99. They are user replaceable.

DLP is a great choice when you want the largest picture for the $$$.  DLP asls has outstanding picture quality. The reason stores don't stock them is because people mostly want thin and flat TVs.

If you are not concerned with wall mounting or depth, DLP is a good choice.

I have a 4 year old Mits. It is still on the first bulb.

I have had problems with two DLP Mitsubishi models.  Absolutely unbearable with repairs, lamps you name.  One cuts off continually (52") and the other "62") just doesn't work and this is after getting the component back from Mitsubishi.  I had been a loyal Mitsu owner but never again!  They have my track record because I HAD a charge card, no loyalty for loyalty.  Just purchased a Samsung 55".

It might be the tempature sensor. Thats what happened with my tv and I thought it was the lamp but it wasn't. Got it fixed for free by mitsubishi.

Hi There-

My parents bought one of the 73" DLP TV's for their second home. You need to have a large home (room) to put this in this, otherise go ahead and just get a smaller Plasma or LCD unit. They have had absolutely no problems with this set. I have read the above reviews about some of the other, smaller DLP's.. I think Mitsubishi has resolved the above mentioned problems. We have a fabulous Surround/Surround system, BluRay DVD and digital cable. The TV itself comes in great! I would definitely recommend this TV to whomever asks me about it. It has all the goodies.. i.e.- all the rear hookups you'll ever need, I'm sure you have seen the remote and all that is available. For the price it is a fabulous set. We had a 50" TV in their prior and it just seemed so tiny. This one fits the bill. It is a little hard to see from strong angles. Like trying to see it from the direct sides off to a point. That is why I recommend it for large homes with a nice large (much bigger than average) room to put it in. If you have any specific questions, feel free to email me at gjzoomy@hotmail.com

I love my 65" Mitzu.  Have had it for 2 yrs with no problems.  Speakers aren't awesome, but why wouldn't you hook surround up to something so awesome!

I have 3 Mitsubishi DLP - and only the one that is 7 years old has had a lamp replaced.  The new ones are beautiful, no repairs, and 3D if you want.  If you are worried about it, the price differential will allow you to buy a closet full of bulbs or a 7 year extra warranty and probably still spend less for 60 inch + sets.  If you want something that will drive you crazy, wait till a single pixel burns out right in the middle of the screen, or turns red and is in the middle of every face.  A certain percentage of the flat screens consider this acceptable and not a warranty item ( I have 4 flat plasma too).  Unless you absolutely have to mount it on a wall (and better get extra braces for the big ones, run wires through drywall, etc), there is simply no comparison in terms of bang for a buck .  If you put stereo, cable, or sat box on a table near by, then what have you gained by putting it on the wall?

I bought a Mitsubishi DLP with an extended warranty. (5 years)  It lasted 5 years and 1 month before it died.  Mitsubishi is the only company that makes DLP's and there is an obvious reason that no one else does.

Everyone has already mentioned the issues with the DLP TVs, but just one other thing I thought to add was that if you check out Consumer Reports, they list the reliablility of brands (several thousand TVs were purchased and then they listed the number of different brands with serious issues- I think it was within the first year), Mitsubishi and Westinghouse were the only two brands tested that had more than 5 TVs with serious issues.  Granted that is still not a bad ratio out of thousands, but it is saying something that it was a bit more than other brands.

looking at a new Mitsu 73" DLP to replace a 10 year old rear projection tv......reading the posts on this forum and others, I am a little reluctant to buy anything Mitsu  Have they addressed the issues from 2-3 years back on their DLP's?
