HDMI connection is the best for connecting video games, PCs, DVD/blueray to a TV make sure what you puchase has enough HDMI ports for the devices you plan on connecting.

The "best" for gaming is plasma, this is the technology that is also best for watching sports.  However, I did not like the reflection the screen gives.  My preference was for LCD, I have a 2 year old Sony LCD at 60hz with a PS3 connected to it.  Plays wonderfully in my opinion.  After watching it I can now see the difference between fast motion on Plasma and LCD.  Plasma is better at handling fast video motion.  I doesn't bother me all that much since I have to be looking for the difference.  When I purchase my next TV  I will go LCD again but with 120hz or 240hz whichever is the better deal at the time I purchase.

The best advice I can give is to go to the store and have them play a blue ray (1080p) movie with fast action on both plasma and LCD.  Your eye will be the best judge for your needs.

Hope this helps.

Memyselfandeye, lol no problem, it's all in the eye of the viewer.  Hope s/he follows the advice and watches them in the store with fast video.  And I agree I prefer LCD also.

Let's get the facts correct guys, ok?

The newest Plasma's are the best for gaming, hands down. I researched this at the www.avsforum.com (the most knowledgable tech guys around), and Plasma is known as the best for gamming, curently..at least until LED improves on it's reponse time.

I choose the 50" G10 Panasonic model, since it never gets burn in, it's primary colors are perfect(with the latest fimeware), Along with the V seies, it's the only 1080p lineup of HDTV's that handles the full 1080p in motion, and it's 600Mhz subfield, makes it have the fastest response time on the market, and it's black levels are very close to the Pioneer Kuro's, which were the best for any flat panel.

Also Panasonic keeps upgrading the Tv via it's internet fireware updates, which improves PQ and other aspects as well.

I also have THE best gamer's HDTV on the market since 2005', the Sony XBR 960 (CRT 34"), and it's still in the top 3-5 best HDTV's for gaming, hands down, as it's black level is still unmatched as it's response time.

The 50" G10 has come the closest for under $1500 in matching that Sony XBR 960.

I still prefer to game on the XBR960, as it's the ideal gamers tv, still to this day, but when i want to go big screen, i'm in my LR playing 360/PS3 games on the Panasonic G10.

the inconsistant picture that LED offers makes it worthless.

Plasmas are "PANASONIC" are the best tvs for hardcore gamers.

I think the best is the Samsung Led. Just bought the 55 in and gaming is incredible on it, alot better than my Sony lcd!

I have a 62" Toshiba DLP 120HZ 1080P and just purchased a Xbox 360 for my grand kids to play LOL, and I'm realy impressed with the performance and sharpness. (I have the hdmi hooked up).  My grand kids are very happy to come over and spend hours on it.  Now that they'er giving away dlps and if you have the room, I think I'd go with another DLP.

They are giving away DLPs because they are high maintenance and retailers are forcing them off the market because of it. Excessive gaming decreases the amount of hours you get on a tv. DLPs suffer from this the most.

@crzyrlf in all honesty I hope you have a warranty for both the tv and the XBOX 360 because between the two products its basically a race for which will breakdown first.

Biggest proof LEDs have such an inconsistent  picture and are not worth the money, is simply look at the retailers, all retailers especially Samsung all openly admitted that they are experimenting with a new basic local dimming technology with Edge Lit LEDs in order to combat performance issues of 2009 models.

I would reccommend an LCD over a Plasma or LED tv if you intend to use it for gaming. Particularly, look at tvs with a 1080p resolution and at least a 120 htz refresh rate.

Buy the LCD. I see a bunch of people telling you to go plasma. WRONG!!! If you use it for watching tv as well as gaming, you definately need the LCD. Game systems tend to burn into the screens on a plasma tv. You DON'T want that! Get one with a 120Hz refresh rate, not the 60Hz. The 120Hz is better for fast action, although it costs a bit more. Get one with a few HDMI inputs as well, as with most new game systems this is the best way to connect them. I'm looking at a Toshiba Regza 42" or 46" myself. Good luck! P.S._ DO NOT GET A PLASMA FOR A GAMING TV!!!

This has been very educational. I am looking at getting a Gamming only tv and this has been helpful, thank you.

Now I think I will look at a much smaller tv, like 32"-36", a large tv would be way too much when it comes to gamming. now tv Sports I want the 62" I saw the other day, the girlfrien just laughed at me and walked away

Upon reading this I have to say there is one thing that is missing about plasma tvs.  To see plasma tvs well you have to have a dark room.  light can reflect off of screen.  just food for thought

No one has said anything about the LG 240hz LED, it is the only 100 percent led tv on the market. All others are hybreds with led and lcd mixed and none at 240 hz.. Low power, FAST, CRISP. Comes in a 42" 47" 55" and start about $1150 and up. Go see one with hd fast action running, if you aren't stunned you need your eyes checked.  VNCVOTW

I have had my 42" plasma for 3 years, it gets used every day for gaming or movies at least 6-8 hours daily.  I got it because I was playing RTS games like C&C3, and I could not make out the words  even 3' from the old tube  tv.  When I plugged the 360 into the 42"  everything looked great (thank god for HDTV), and still does, like I said I game alot and have had zero burn in trouble. My tv has a whitewash feature that I was told I might have to use but i have never had too.  I also heard that if it didn't have any burn in, in the first 1000 hours of use that it may never happen.  LCDs are nice tv's to but if a kid pushes on the screen or a cat or something messes with or claws the screen it will cause troube (dead spots).  I know that will not affect anyone who has it mounted on the wall, but these things while rare do happen.  I dont have a lot of glare from my plasma, its minimal and i still see the picture fine, but if I close the blinds there is no glare at all.  I  think i would have to say go plasma for gaming, I did and I am happy with it even 3 years later.

I am sorry if your personal opinion is that an LCD is better than a plasma for gaming then thats your opinion and you are more than welcome to share it, but do not say that other peoples opinions are wrong and then try to give "details" as to why and then get those "details" wrong. Anyone who knows anything about tvs knows that current plasma models do not have issues with burn-in anymore especially panasonic plasmas which has technology to prevent it. So you should look up the correct/current info before saying someone else is wrong.

Also when gaming 120hz is not really all that important as the response time is. With an LCD you want to make sure your response time is 4ms or lower with and LCD, you can get a 120hz tv but if your response time is more than 4ms you will have horrible response set up. 120hz is the clock speed of your processor and will auto fill frames so your eyes don't notice motion blur.

Since video games are developed frame by frame the quality of lag/on screen response time will all hender on the frame rate of the video game you are playing, not if you have 120hz/240hz ect turn on your tv.

This is why plasmas are better for video games.

While I agree the first poster is wrong, you are wrong as well.  Check an actual tech forum like avsforum.com and you will see the boards are riddled with plasma burn-in from the latest and greatest plasmas.

With that said, the biggest consideration for gaming televisions are input lag.  This lag is the amount of time it takes for the button you input to visually register on the screen.  This has nothing to do with the response times posted by the manufacturer.  Generally speaking, Plasmas are better for input lag than LCDs.  While each set is not created equally, the Panny G10 is the best TV on the market for input lag.  This comes with the trade off of possible image retention and in worst case scenarios, burn-in.  While Plasmas are better equiped to avoid retention and burn-in, it hasn't been completely eliminated.

As for LCD's, Samsung's are universally known as being the worst LCD in terms of input lag.  The problem with input lag occurs because of all of the internal processing that occurs within the TV to put picture on the screen. the greater the processing, the greater the chance of lag.  I chose the Sharp lc52e77u because it has received very good input lag reviews while maintaining a solid picture.  Admitedly, it isn't as nice as the Sammy B650/750, but that was a trade-off I made to get a better performing TV for video games.

My suggestion is go to avsforum.com, search input lag, and do some reading.  The people over there are extremely knowledgable and helpful.  After a few weeks of research over there, I chose what I believe is the best TV for my situation.

One last note, don't waste your money on the current Samsung LED.  It offers a negligible advantage over top of the line LCDs besides its width.  It uses side mounted LED lighting which is significanty worse than local LED and barely better than backlit LCDs.

I visit AVS often, and if you purchase a cheap plasma or neglect to turn on your burn-in protection then you deserve getting burn-in.

I have run multiple 15hr tests on Panasonic plasmas, never have they burned-in.

Panasonic, Samsung, LG do not have major issues with burn-in (all feature wipe modes)

I know for sure that IR and BI are still problems with Plasma.  Are they as prevalent as a few years ago? No.  But it is not a true statement to claim it isn't  concern anymore.  Especially when the TV will be mainly used for gaming, which is the most well known cause of IR and BI.  I agree if a TV is properly used it shouldn't face these issues but try to explain that to a 12 year old.

Led and lcd are essentially the same tv. the only difference that they have is the back lighting system which makes the led produce a higher resolution and higher contrast rataio. DO NOT GET A PLASMA TV FOR GAMING! I used to work at Sears and Best Buy, trust me. The burn ins are not completely fixed. meaning that if a piture stays stationary to long it will burn the image in to the glass. Also you get a reflective image because a plasma is a gas incalsed in two panes of glass, unlike a lcd or led. An lcd and led have a liquid crystal encased in two panes a plastic. Also what a lot of people dont know is with a plasma you have to let the gas brake in to get the smooth fluid moving motion. Get anywhere from a 37" to a 55" with at least 120hrz 240hrz is even better. Dont exceed 60". the lcd/led image tends to not be as fluid moving when this size is exceeded because the tv is too big and the luquid crystal has to move to far.  also if you get an LED you will have to play from a bit father distance. because the contrast ratio and resolution is so much better if you sit to close you will see almost every pixel. sit back 8' to 15' for best picture quality.
